Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 711 PM EST Sun Jan 16 2022

. Turning Noticeably Cooler And Drier Through Mid Week . . Dangerous Marine Conditions Through Monday .

DISCUSSION. A robust upper low with a surface reflection was over the western Carolinas this evening . with a cold front that arced out over the Atlantic then extended south through the Bahamas to central Cuba. During the next 24 hours this system lifts up along the eastern seaboard with the front shifting eastward. This will allow deep northwesterly flow to work in with cool dry air. Model PWAT values around 0.75 inches tonight drop to 0.50 inches or less Mon.

Winds have diminished and shifted just enough to lower the coastal flood threat and have allowed the coastal flood warning to expire at 7 PM. However winds will still support high surf and a high rip current risk through Mon. Clouds will continue to stream onshore from the Gulf through Mon morning . with partly to mostly cloudy skies that begin to clear in the afternoon. Lows tonight will be near seasonal while the highs Mon stay below by a few degrees.

AVIATION. 17/00-24Z. BKN VFR SC streams onshore overnight in gusty W-NW winds . with gusts AOB 30KT. BKN SC gives way to SCT AFT 18Z and winds continue gusty.

MARINE. Strong west to northwest winds continue overnight but had diminished enough to allow the gale warning to drop to small craft advisory . which runs through Mon afternoon with hazardous conditions. Mariners are advised to remain in port if at all possible through Monday. Then high pressure in the Gulf begins to slide east . allowing winds and seas to decrease and provide improving marine conditions through the remainder of the week.
