Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 326 AM EDT Sat Oct 16 2021

DISCUSSION. Today-Sun: Upper ridging over FL retrogrades into the western Gulf of Mexico. An upper low near James Bay, Canada shifts into northern Quebec Province. A longwave trough extending south from this low initially reaches the north-central Gulf coast but pivots northeastward . across the eastern seaboard to the Atlantic coastal waters. At the surface high pressure with a relaxed gradient across the area slowly slips east. A frontal boundary accompanying the upper trough is propelled east and southeast . into north-central FL this evening then along the Florida Keys late Sun. High pressure builds in behind the front . with it's center tracking from the southern high plains to the lower Mississippi Valley.

Skies are mostly clear and will prevail through out the day. Patchy fog has already formed at a few Nature Coast locations . expect the fog to spread during the rest of the early morning hours . mainly to inland areas . but remain limited. The approaching frontal boundary is rather staved for moisture but could still produce isolated showers or a storm or two. These are expected this afternoon and early evening for parts of the Nature Coast . around the Tampa Bay Region in the late evening hours . and brushing along coastal southwest FL during the early morning hours. Sunday will be under the influence of a dry and stable northwest to north flow . rain free under clear/sunny skies. Temperatures a bit below seasonal in the north . around seasonal for central areas . and just above in the south. The only possible hazard could be a risk of rip currents Sun. But confidence is on the low side and will defer to later shifts to re-evaluate conditions.

Mon through Fri: The Atlantic upper trough lifts northeastward as the western Gulf ridge builds over the plains states early in the week. During the remainder of the week this ridge moves east and flattens over the eastern US in response to a series of upper lows/short wave troughs sliding along the Canadian/US border. Nearly zonal flow sets up over the area by Fri. The lower Mississippi Valley high pressure tracks east to the Atlantic by week's end . sprawling down over the Gulf and FL as it does.

The atmosphere continues dry and stable into Tue But by Wed. when the flow has become more easterly . moisture begins advecting into the southern counties then spreading northward Thu-Fri. This will support increasing rains chances going into the end of the week. Cool to near seasonal temperatures Mon slowly warm during the week.

AVIATION. 16/06Z-17/06Z. VFR conditions prevail as SKC gives way to FEW-SCT clouds. Patchy field fog will be possible this morning in normal areas . but have omitted from TAFs. A moisture starved frontal boundary approaches late in the main TAF period with PSBL MVFR VSBY and CIG in ISOLD SHRA AFT 03Z. Light to calm winds shift to NW in the afternoon AOB 09KT.

MARINE. Exercise caution headlines begins tonight and becomes Advisory conditions Sun into Mon as a front tracks through this evening and over night . with high pressure building in it's wake. The high pressure moves east during the week with winds diminishing and veering.

FIRE WEATHER. A weak front moves south over the fire districts this afternoon and during the overnight hours with some showers . a storm or two . and patchy fog. High pressure builds in Sun with a dry and stable northerly flow continuing into midweek . as the flow slowly veers.
