Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 148 PM EDT Mon Oct 25 2021

SHORT TERM (TDY-WED). A short wave to to our northeast will continue to pull ample moisture across the Sunshine State supporting showers and a few thunderstorms through the remaining of the afternoon and into the evening. In terms of impacts, most of the area has received 1 to 2 inches of rain over the last 24 hrs, and with the additional rainfall expected over this afternoon, some localized flooding could occur, especially in areas along the Nature Coast and interior locations.

Cloud coverage should continue to break up as showers dissipate, with afternoon temperatures staying in the 80s while overnight lows only getting down to the upper 60s north to the upper 70s south. Additionally, conditions might be moist enough to support some patchy areas of fog, especially over inland locations.

Additionally, gusty southwesterly will increase the risk of rip currents along our beaches from Pinellas to Lee County today, therefore a Rip Current Statement is in effect through 7pm. Visitors and residents should keep this in mind and be cautions, if planning on going to a beach in those areas.

By Tuesday, a weak area of high pressure is expected to build over the Florida Peninsula pushing dry air and relatively cool temperatures with lows ranging from the mid to upper 50s north to the mid to upper 60s south on Wednesday morning. We should remain rain free during this time.

LONG TERM (THU-SUN). The other half of the week, weather conditions get a bit more interesting. The weak U/L ridging is pushed out of the area by a broad area of low pressure and associated cold front approaching the state. Current model guidance is not really in agreement in terms of timing, but it is safe to say that this system could bring impacts to the region sometime late Wednesday/early Thursday and Friday. There is some potential for showers and thunderstorms, as well breezy, cooler and drier conditions behind it. Some areas could see morning temperatures in the low 50s to 60s this weekend; we can only hope.

AVIATION. 25/18Z-26/18Z. Bulk of energy/moisture exiting area. However, terminals can still expect OCNL MVFR CIGS and SHRA along with at times gusty SW winds. Clearing with WSW winds AOB 06KT begin around 00Z. Just FEW-SCT clouds and NW winds AOB 11KT AFT 12-16Z.

MARINE. Area of low pressure and ample moisture over the area will support showers and a thunderstorm or two through this afternoon. Southwest winds will prevail with some breezy and choppy conditions possible. This system pulls away going by early Tuesday, bringing drier conditions through Wednesday. Then, a strong cold front will move east through the waters Thursday, bringing chances of showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the front and higher winds and seas behind the system. Small Craft Advisory level winds and seas are forecast to develop by early Thursday morning and will hold through at least the end of the week.

FIRE WEATHER. Very moist and breezy conditions will prevail across fire districts today. Breezy southwest winds should diminish going into the evening, as showers dissipate. On Tuesday and Wednesday, drier and slightly cooler conditions will be in place while high pressure builds over the area. Then, a strong cold front could bring additional rain and storms, in addition to gusty winds and cool temperatures to the region. Otherwise, no fire weather concerns at this time.
