Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 846 PM EDT Fri Oct 15 2021

DISCUSSION.

Satellite imagery reveals quite a bit less cloud cover than this time yesterday as the airmass aloft has undergone further drying since then with the mid-level ridge extending right over FL. So we'll see mostly clear skies tonight, except for occasional marine stratocu reaching the coast as forecast soundings show NE winds extending from just off the surface through around 3000 ft AGL with moisture also a bit higher in that layer.

Surf temperatures remain in the lower 80s, so there will likely be some light drainage flow again setup with the cooler land vs water temp gradient. And with dewpoints a bit lower than last night, overnight lows should follow suit by being a couple of degrees cooler. This will put most in the upper 60s for lows, except some rural areas may be a couple degrees cooler, and barrier islands will likely remain in the lower 70s.

AVIATION.

VFR conditions prevail through the TAF period. Tonight, winds will ease to variable or calm. Patchy ground fog may be possible, but dry conditions will largely suppress fog/stratus formation. Saturday, northwesterly winds around 8 knots will delay inland progression of the east coast sea breeze until 18Z or so, after which coastal terminals switch to onshore flow 8-10 knots. Winds will ease and veer back to northwesterly once the sea breeze influence dissipates.

MARINE.

Tonight . Other than a few sprinkles possible, expecting dry conditions across the waters. E/NE winds 5-10 kt this evening will gradually diminish to WNW/NW at around 5 kt by daybreak. Seas continue 3-4 ft.

HYDROLOGY.

Previous discussion . While light NE winds slacken tonight/Sat, they will increase out of the N-NE late Sat night through Sunday. Coupled with autumnal high astronomical high tides, the St Johns River at Astor will remain in Minor Flood stage (2.3- 2.4 ft) through early next week.
