Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 345 AM EDT Mon Sep 27 2021

DISCUSSION. A fairly strong upper-level trough remains in place overhead. With the 500mb flow out of the NNW, this is helping to advect drier air across the peninsula. Model-based PW values are already showing a reduction from the earlier 1.6in value that the 0Z sounding showed. There is still an axis hovering around SWFL around 1.5in, but other spots are dropping closer to 1.0in. With continental air funneling in, this is likely to continue.

Despite the drying, this isn't affording much change to temperatures, considering it is still late September. This still means that there will be, at least some, surface-based instability. With the continued drying, however, the moisture component required for convective initiation is missing. As such, rain chances are near zero for the next few days areawide. However, the drying does have the benefit of keeping it from feeling quite as oppressive in the afternoon, with feels-like temperatures hovering right around the actual air temperature. It also means slightly cooler morning lows given the light winds and efficient radiational cooling. Mid-to- upper 60s are possible for areas away from the immediate coast, with the coolest morning likely occurring on Wednesday.

With an amplified upper-level pattern sticking around, a rather strong ridge should build over the FL peninsula late in the week. Despite being of continental origins rather than subtropical in nature, this may allow for a bit more moisture to work back in, raising the dewpoints once more and bringing a slightly better chance for rain back in later this week and into the weekend. There are likely to be competing processes at play, and it will hinge on which features win out. However, it is enough to introduce a chance for at least isolated storms across SWFL as early as Thursday and areawide by Friday. Enjoy the subtle change while it lasts as we haven't quite reached that time of year where change is here to stay.

MARINE. Benign marine conditions are expected this week with light ENE winds and low rain chances as drier and more stable air works across the peninsula. However, waters immediate adjacent the coast are likely to see an onshore wind in the afternoon, subsequently leading to a slight surge of easterly winds at night. Despite this, the highest winds remain between 10-15kts overnight, keeping seas to around 2ft or less through much of the work week. Some chances for rain return late in the week as moisture begins to increase.

FIRE WEATHER. Drier, more stable air is settling across the FL peninsula keeping rain chances near zero for much of the work week and a generally light ENE wind flow in place, except for the immediate coast where an onshore wind is still likely for a period in the afternoon. Despite this, RH values are not expected to reach critical thresholds with some surface moisture remaining. Fire weather concerns remain low through the forecast period.

Prev Discussion. /issued 134 AM EDT Mon Sep 27 2021/

AVIATION . With drier and more stable air in place, VFR conditions prevail through the forecast period. An onshore wind is likely at coastal terminals at the immediate coast in the afternoon due to daytime heating.
