Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 207 PM EST Thu Jan 20 2022

DISCUSSION. Temperatures have rebounded very quickly this afternoon with a few spots getting close to 80 degrees. However, this looks to be a temporary warm up as we are already starting to see our next cold front pushing through the southeast. This front will start to works its way through the state on Friday and early Saturday. However, models have really started to back off on shower chances and the severe weather threat. The severe weather threat looks to be confined ahead of the front in the late afternoon were we could possible see some seabreeze thunderstorms firing up.

The front will be to our south on Saturday but the moisture will not be. Rainshowers will be limited but the cloudy skies and colder air coming in will limit heating for the day. Areas north of I-4 will keep highs in the 50's with areas along and south of I-4 seeing highs staying in the 60's. By Sunday the clouds have cleared out but the trough over the area will keep the colder air in place despite the sunny skies.

Temperatures will start to moderate once again for the early part of the week but it will be a temporary warm up as our next system is expected to push through on Tuesday. Models are in pretty good agreement on time but not strength of the next system. GFS has a weaker system with the low staying well to the north. On the other hand the Euro has a strong system with the low passing just north of Tampa. Right now will keep just a generally 40 PoP over much of the area on Tuesday. After that temperatures will be dropping once again.

AVIATION. VFR conditions expected through the period with light easterly winds with a seabreeze right along the coast in the afternoon.

MARINE. A cold front will be pushing through the area tomorrow giving us a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the Gulf. However, the main hazards will be gusty winds coming in on Saturday behind the front. Most water ways will probably have an exercise caution throughout the day on Saturday with winds out of the northwest. Gusty winds will linger into Sunday as it switching north before finally calming down last Sunday.

FIRE WEATHER. Rainshowers will be possible both Friday and Saturday as a cold front pushes through the area. The other main hazards through the weekend is low dispersions with numbers staying below 20 for much of the next three days.
