Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 336 AM EDT Wed Oct 20 2021

DISCUSSION. Today-Tonight . High pressure over the southeast US will continue to push offshore into the Atlantic through the day today. Locally, this will lead to more onshore flow, as winds veer from ENE to E. The pressure gradient on the periphery of the high will again lead to winds up to around 10mph inland and 10-15mph along the coast this afternoon. Another dry day in store for east central Florida today, as well; although, a few sprinkles can't be ruled out along the coast as marine stratocu continues pushing inland. Will see a slight uptick in temperatures, with highs in the mid-80s along the coast and mid to upper 80s inland. However, humidity will remain on the lower side, with PWATs well below 1". So, though temperatures will be higher, it still won't be a return to the previous hot and humid conditions. Overnight lows tonight will also be slightly on the upward swing, with mid to upper 60s inland and upper 60s to low 70s along the coast.

Thu-Fri . The latter portion of the week features loss of influence of Atlc high pressure, as it retreats seaward over the open Atlc. Although the flow weakens, it will remain modest onshore with temperatures remaining mild to warm. An approaching southern stream jet coupled with a weak disturbance will return a small chc of mainly light rain or a sprinkle during Friday as moisture increases somewhat. Measurable rain from this episode should be very low to only trace amounts in affected locations.

Extended . Surface feature alignment remains un-remarkable as a broad ridge initially over the OH/TN Valleys early Sat sinks to the SE Atlc Coast during the weekend. Higher moisture across the FL Straits and S FL shows some progress Nwd over the peninsula by Sunday and highest PoPs (Sct) of the present forecast period are shown Sunday and Sun night before becoming suppressed Swd once again into early next week by this next advancing ridge.

Temperatures will remain seasonally mild to warm with no notable airmass incursions from the north shown well into next week.

AVIATION. VFR conditions prevailing through the period, with SCT040-050 marine stratocu continuing through the day again along the coast. E flow 8- 10kts for the interior terminals and 9-11kts along the coast. No precipitation is expected.

MARINE. Today-Tonight . High pressure over the Southeast will continue to drift eastward towards the Atlantic today, leading to easterly flow locally. Winds will remain elevated, at around 10-15kts. Seas 2-3ft. Expecting dry conditions through tonight; however, isolated sprinkles cannot be ruled out as marine stratocu streams onshore through the day.

Thu-Fri . Favorable open water conditions expected with combination of modest wind and swell producing seas around 2-3 ft.

Extended . favorable conds into Sat with 2-3 ft seas then developing fetch with greater swell and a increase in onshore winds by late Sunday will increase seas to 3-4 ft into early next week.

HYDROLOGY. The Saint Johns River at Astor is forecast to remain within Action Stage the rest of the week.
