Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 257 PM EDT Thu Oct 28 2021

SHORT TERM (TDY-SAT). We have had a very active morning/early afternoon with multiple storms becoming severe as they moved onshore. Several warnings and advisories were issued and continued to be issued for the area through the rest of the afternoon and into this evening. We have also received several reports of waterspouts/rotating clouds, as well as some damage.

Unfortunately, unsettled weather is far from being over. Ample moisture (dewpoints over 70 degrees) combined with lots of instability (CAPE values from this morning's sounding of over 1500 J/kg), upper level support from the boundary, and available wind shear will continue to support strong storms a head of the frontal boundary the rest of today. Damaging winds, isolated tornadoes/waterspouts, and heavy downpours are still possible, with a Tornado Watch in effect through 5PM this afternoon. Gusty westerly winds will dominate keeping hazardous maritime conditions in place through the period.

Going into Friday, the broad area of low pressure will bring scattered showers with on/off periods of stratiform rain, especially along the west coast of Florida. Westerly winds will prevail and should begin to diminish by the afternoon on Saturday.

In terms of temperatures, overnight lows will gradually decrease through the end of the week with areas along the Nature Coast dropping into the low to mid 50s, and areas south in the 60s. Afternoon highs will be quite pleasant staying in the mid to upper 70s north to the mid 80s south.

LONG TERM (SUN-WED). By early next week, much drier conditions and northerly winds should take over as high pressure begins to build. We should stay rain free at least through the first half of the week. Fall like temperatures will also linger during this time.

AVIATION. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to move across terminals bringing intermittent MVFR to IFR through most of the period. Conditions should begin to improve from north to south as frontal boundary travels across the peninsula. Light on/off stratiform rain is expected once the front moves through with strong westerly winds prevailing through the period.

MARINE. Frontal boundary will continue to move across the Gulf of Mexico supporting showers and thunderstorms with some severe storms possible. These storms could support damaging winds and isolated tornadoes/waterspouts through this afternoon and into the evening. A Tornado Warning is in effect through 5pm this afternoon for near shore marine zones. Additionally, gusty west to southwest winds will reach advisory at least through Saturday afternoon. High pressure builds back into the area late in the upcoming weekend with improving marine conditions expected.

FIRE WEATHER. Very moist conditions and gusty west to southwest winds will prevail across fire districts through Friday as a low pressure system moves over the region. Then, a much drier and cooler airmass is pushed into the area going into the weekend and through early next week. Strong westerly winds stay in place during this time. No fire weather conditions expected through the period.
