Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 714 PM EDT Wed Sep 22 2021

UPDATE. Convection has mostly cleared the I-75 corridor (with the exception of Charlotte and Lee counties) courtesy of westerly flow. Localized flooding may still be possible, especially across Highlands county where we saw impressive rainfall totals yesterday evening. Otherwise, with a loss of daytime heating, expect these storms to gradually diminish over the next several hours.

First cold front of the season is currently just south of Tallahassee per latest visible satellite and TLH winds shifting out of the northwest. This front will gradually work its way south into the overnight hours before weakening and eventually halting over South-Central Florida. A few showers will be possible along and out ahead of the front late overnight into the first part of tomorrow morning, especially near coastal areas where southwest flow will be enhanced. Lower clouds will also be possible across the I-4 corridor, which is highlighted in the aviation discussion accordingly No updates necessary to the current forecast.

AVIATION. VCTS remains in TAFs across LAL/PGD/FMY/RSW for the next several hours with the greatest immediate convective impact at PGD. Overnight, an approaching cold front will result in lowering of clouds across the I-4 corridor. A period of prevailing MVFR cigs at TPA/PIE/LAL with perhaps even lower ceilings at LAL (uncertainty precludes mentioning in the TAFs at this time). VCSH will also be possible due to moisture pooling ahead and along the front through the morning hours tomorrow. Decided to leave showers out of LAL, however. VFR returns by afternoon with a westerly breeze between 07-10kt.
