Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 806 PM EDT Mon Sep 27 2021

UPDATE. Another quiet and relatively drier day today with hardly a shower to speak of across the forecast area. No concerns for the overnight period and another warm and dry day is expected for Tuesday. No updates needed to the ongoing forecast.

AVIATION. VFR conditions are expected through the forecast period. Light and variable winds overnight become northeast/east through the day Tuesday and then northwest with the sea breeze mainly for KTPA, KPIE, and KSRQ.

MARINE. High pressure moves off the southeast U.S. coast through mid-week with northeast to east winds continuing except for a turn onshore with the sea breeze each afternoon. A front moves through the region late in the week, with a chance for showers along with an increase in winds and seas.

Prev Discussion. /issued 218 PM EDT Mon Sep 27 2021/

DISCUSSION . Upper level ridging in the western Gulf of Mexico extending north shifts to the central Gulf and Mid-Mississippi Valley by late Tue . displacing an east coast trough to Atlantic coastal waters. High pressure centered on the NC/SC coast slips offshore tonight and continues east Tue . but stretching back across FL and much of the Gulf.

These features will maintain a dry and stable atmosphere with northwest flow aloft and lower level northeast to east flow. Model PWAT values run 1 inch or less. Skies will be clear to mostly clear with nil rain chances. Temperatures run near seasonal for highs while the low are slightly below. Northeast and east winds prevail but shift to onshore near the coast in the afternoons.

From Wed through next Mon: The upper trough over the Atlantic coastal waters slowly pivots northeastward as it's parent low drops out of Quebec, Canada and aloft New England then the Canadian Maritimes. This allows the upper ridging from the central Gulf to Mid-Mississippi Valley to slide across the southeast quarter of the nation to the Atlantic waters . flattening some . by Mon when a long wave trough moves into the nations's mid-section. Atlantic high pressure across the area scoots east toward the end of the week as a front sweeps across the south US then FL. Canadian High pressue crosses the Great Lakes Fri and settles into the Mid- Atlantic states for the weekend then treks east early next week while reaching back to FL and the Gulf of Mexico. The front stalls along the north Cuban coast and through the Bahamas where a wave may form on it.

The forecast continues rain free and sunny/clear through Thu. Then the front will provide showers and storms along with breezy winds. While the high in the wake of the front brings some drying conditions this will be offset by the stalled front and possible wave to the south So. our first OCT weekend could see some showers and a few possible storms.

AVIATION . 27/18Z-28/18Z VFR. FEW to OCNL SCT clouds. SKC overnight. NE winds AOB 11KT this afternoon . except shifting to NW at TPA/PIE/SRQ. Winds diminish tonight to light and VRBL or E.

MARINE . High pressure dominates with prevailing northeast or east winds . not more than 15 knots with seas 3 feet or less However. near shore waters can expect an onshore shift in the afternoons and a nocturnal easterly surge sets up most nights. A front sweeps through late in the week with high pressure in it's wake and will bring showers and storms along with some wind/seas up to 20 knots/4 feet.

FIRE WEATHER . Dry stable air dominates through mid week with near zero rain chances. However sufficient low level moisture will preclude any low RH concerns. Moisture begins to return toward the end of the week . bringing in some chances of rain.
