Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Melbourne FL 1058 AM EDT Sat Oct 23 2021

UPDATE. Mostly quiet on the radar this morning, with only a couple isolated showers over the Atlantic waters, mainly south of Cape Canaveral with a couple of these showers making in onshore. These showers are slowly moving west to southwest. A couple additional showers may make it to the coast, but if this occurs, it is expected to quickly weaken and dissipate once over land. A scattered deck of mid to upper level clouds are streaming across east central Florida this morning, creating mostly to partly sunny skies. This mid and upper cloud deck is forecast to linger for much of the day, keeping skies mostly to partly sunny; however, mostly cloudy conditions are expected to develop across the Treasure Coast this afternoon as higher moisture over the local area will bring scattered showers and even a lightning storm or two. Forecast looks on track with only a few minor adjustments to the precipitation chances and temperatures. Highest rain chances this afternoon (PoP 30-40 percent) remains across the Treasure Coast. However, have included an area of 20 percent PoP just south of Melbourne this morning to account for the showers moving onshore from the Atlantic, as well as expanded the 20 percent chances a tab bit northward this afternoon. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 80s along the coast and upper 80s to near 90s degrees across the interior.

DISCUSSION.

Today and Tonight . (Previous Discussion) A sfc trough will pass over Central FL by late morning with local effects mainly in the form of more pronounced Nly component winds. Briefly N winds behind the feature will veer onshore rather quickly this aftn as a progressive pattern ascd with fast srn stream flow aloft brings some mid level energy across the area from the Gulf of Mex. Higher avbl moister lingering across S FL will combine with the trough to produce sct showers and perhaps a storm or two across the Treasure Cst and adjacent Atlc waters. Will include a mentionable rain chc from S Brevard County Swd well into tonight. Highs will make it well into the 80s today with lows tonight in the U60s to L70s.

AVIATION. VFR conditions expected outside of convection through the TAF period. Isolated showers over the Atlantic are moving towards the coast, with a couple showers making it to the coast. Have added a TEMPO for FPR for 5SM SHRA BKN030. While most sites will be mostly dry today, isolated/scattered shower with an isolated lightning storm will be possible from FPR-SUA this afternoon, thus have included VCSH for those sites.

MARINE. Isolated showers across the Atlantic this morning, mainly from Cape Canaveral southward. These showers are slowly moving towards the coast, with some of these showers making it to shore. Current buoy 41009 observations show seas are 2ft with a dominate period of 8 seconds, and a north wind around 6 KT. While the dominate period is 8 seconds, there is a longer period greater than 13 seconds present. Winds will be north to northeast today around 5-10 KT. Isolated to scattered showers with an isolated lightning storm will be possible this afternoon, mainly south of Melbourne. Seas will be 2-3 ft.
