Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 730 AM EDT Tue Sep 28 2021

AVIATION. Prevailing VFR through the period with no flight restrictions expected across West Central and Southwest FL. Light east to northeast flow 8 knots or below with a westerly influence during the afternoon across TPA/PIE/SRQ. BKN cirrus likely overnight as a plume of upper level moisture moves across the area. Otherwise, a relatively dry atmosphere will preclude any convection through the period.

Prev Discussion. /issued 402 AM EDT Tue Sep 28 2021/

SHORT TERM (TDY-THU) . Clear skies, very pleasant and relatively cool conditions will great you as you step outside this morning. The main corporate is an upper/mid level ridge stretching across Central and Southern U.S. keeping dry air over us for the next several days. This will limit storm coverage and development this afternoon. PWAT values are forecasted to range from 1 to 1.25 inches, which is not very favorable for storms. Additionally, very light east to northeasterly winds will prevail in most area, with the exception of coastal areas that might get a settle north to northwesterly shift in the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to gradually increase from the upper 80s to low 90s through the end of the week, but overnight lows will stay below 70 (mid to upper 60s) during this time. Also, dewpoints will be in the 60s, making outdoor activities much more enjoyable.

LONG TERM (FRI-MON) . As we go into the weekend, ridging slides to the east and offshore while an upper level Canadian trough travels south to southeast into the Northeast. As a result, pockets of moist air could make it into the area, increasing rain chances and storm coverage. On the bright side, we at least get to enjoy some fall like conditions for more than one day and in Florida that sounds like a win.

MARINE . High pressure over the area will keep pleasant boating conditions across the Gulf water over the next few days. North to northeasterly winds will prevail and settle onshore shift with the afternoon sea breeze. An area of low pressure will approach the region going into the weekend and increase rain chances, winds, and seas.

FIRE WEATHER . Dry conditions and relatively light east to northeasterly winds will dominate across fire districts through the end of the week. This is as high pressure ridge stays in place during this time. However, humidities should remain above critical levels (upper 30s) with today being the driest. Later in the period, a low pressure system will increase rain chances.
