Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 530 PM CST Sun Nov 28 2021

AVIATION [00Z TAF Issuance].

MVFR cigs continue to dissipate across SE TX this evening, with additional clearing towards the coast anticipated over the next 1-2 hours. Winds become calm overnight, though with clear skies and a fairly well-saturated ground there will be an increased chance of shallow fog developing overnight and into tomorrow morning. Chances of fog development will be greatest along and south of the I-10 corridor. Any lingering fog will dissipate tomorrow morning, with light southeast to south winds developing during the day. Aside from any fog development overnight, conditions remain VFR following the dissipation of cigs this evening.

PREV DISCUSSION /Issued 303 PM CST Sun Nov 28 2021/.

SHORT TERM [Through Monday night].

Clearing line should continue marching southward toward and off the coast by early evening. Surface high pressure settles overhead late tonight. The combination of mclr skies, light wind & damp ground should be favorable for some patchy, shallow late night & early morning fog development across portions of the region. Becoming msunny on Monday with readings bouncing back from the 40s in the morning up to near 70 in the afternoon. Another fairly favorable setup for some fog development late Monday night. 47

LONG TERM [Tuesday through Sunday].

Onshore winds are expected to be well underway by Tues morning as surface high pressure continues to drift further east of the CWA. Aloft, a flat mid/upper ridge over the region will help to keep a quiet/warming pattern in place through the rest of the work week. Rain chances are going to remain limited given the slow return of low-level moisture. High temperatures in the lower to mid 70s for Tues should then warm to the mid and upper 70s for Weds-Fri. Lows to follow a similar pattern with temperatures in the lower to mid 50s Tues night . then into the lower to mid 60s by Fri night.

By next weekend, long-range models are hinting that the weak mid/ upper ridging over the state will be breaking down to a more zon- al flow (as the next mid/upper level trof moving in from the Pac- ific then helps to nudge that lingering cut-off low near the Baja eastward). With PWs back into the 1.5 - 1.7 inch range by Fri and through the weekend, embedded shortwaves in this increasingly SW/ W flow aloft could account for isolated activity (mainly daytime) by Fri into the weekend. As such, no real arguments with the ~20% POPs already in the grids for this time frame. While there may be some very brief N/NW winds in the wake of the various shortwaves, not seeing any real cool down (cold fronts) through this extended forecast period at this time. 41

MARINE.

Generally light to moderate north winds this afternoon are expect- ed to continue tonight . likely decreasing further as surface high pressure builds into the region. This will also help to lower seas over the offshore waters through this evening, so will be dropping Caution Flags just before the next marine package (8PM). Otherwise very light north winds to very light variable winds will be on tap for tomorrow with the high overhead. Light SE winds are set to re- turn across the area by Tues and persist through much of the week. We could see some strengthening of this onshore flow over the near and offshore waters by late Fri into the weekend. 41
