Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 834 PM EDT Mon Sep 27 2021

UPDATE.

No major changes for the update this evening as the forecast is looking good. Tonight will be clear, but not as cool for inland areas as dewpoints are a little higher compared to last night into the low to mid 60s as high pressure has pushed east today over the waters off the Carolina coast. Expect nearly calm winds overnight inland and light and variable at the beaches with lows in the low 60s over SE GA and the mid 60s over NE FL with upper 60s at the coast.

High pressure will settle southward just to our east over the local coastal waters on Tuesday with scattered clouds and light and variable winds around 5 mph inland and becoming easterly at the coast in the afternoon around 5-10 mph. High will again be seasonal in the mid to upper 80s.

PREV DISCUSSION [742 PM EDT].

NEAR TERM [Tonight through Tuesday]. Surface ridge across the area will continue the fair weather with light winds. Temperatures tonight will be a few degrees warmer than last night with lows in the low/mid 60s inland and upper 60s coast. Temperatures will moderate on Tuesday with highs reaching into the mid/upper 80s.

SHORT TERM [Wednesday through Thursday]. Dry pattern will continue as ridge aloft builds over the area from the west. Surface ridge will shift just south of the area producing a light southwest flow becoming onshore near the coast during the afternoon. Daytime temperatures will be warmer with highs reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s inland. Lows will be in the mid/upper 60s.

LONG TERM [Friday Through Monday]. A weak backdoor cold front will push through the area Thursday night. Moderate onshore winds will develop Friday through the weekend with a chance of coastal showers into early next week. Most inland areas will remain dry with temperatures a few degrees above average through the period.

AVIATION. [Through 00Z Wednesday]

VFR conditions will prevail throughout the 00Z TAF period. High pressure is northeast of the region over the Carolina coast this evening and light easterly winds at the coast will subside and become variable tonight and likewise become calm at the inland and duval terminals after 03Z under clear skies. Some patchy fog may form at the inland TAF sites after 06Z as dewpoints are a little higher compared to last night with radiational cooling supporting patchy form formation. Variable winds after 13Z will greet the terminals with the sun rise on Tuesday along with scattered clouds around 3.0 kft rising to around 4.0-5.0 kft in the afternoon hours as high pressure settles just east of the TAF sites with light east to southeast winds of 5-8 knots reigning in at the duval and coastal TAF sites after 17-19Z.

MARINE. High pressure over the southeastern states will weaken as it settles over our waters on Tuesday and to the south on Wednesday. Winds and seas will decrease Tuesday and Wednesday. Strengthening high pressure over southeastern Canada will push a weak cold front southward across the local waters Thursday night. East to northeast winds will strengthen as high pressure builds in form the north from Friday afternoon through the weekend. Long period swells from Distant Major Hurricane Sam will enter our local waters beginning Thursday, with combined seas briefly building to Caution levels Friday night and Saturday.

Rip Currents: Low risk on Tuesday with light winds and seas. Surf will increase late week as long period ocean swells from distant Major Hurricane Sam arrive at area beaches on Thursday.
