Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tallahassee FL 859 PM EDT Thu Sep 23 2021

UPDATE.

No updates to the forecast this evening.

PREV DISCUSSION [724 PM EDT].

NEAR TERM [Through Friday].

Another clear blue sunny day is expected tomorrow as high pressure settles in over the region. Winds and wind gusts should wind down by dawn tomorrow leaving the rest of the day to be as good as it gets for a late September day. Dewpoints tonight may drop into the upper 40s/low 50s region-wide with lows generally in the low to mid 50s! Daytime highs tomorrow are generally expected to be in the low 80s.

SHORT TERM [Friday Night Through Saturday Night].

Upper level trough exits the region Friday night but broad cyclonic flow is expected to continue across the deep south through the near term period while at the surface, high pressure will continue to prevail. Dry northerly flow, although at light speeds, will prevail which help keep temperatures in the overnight cool (low 60s and upper 50s) and comfortable afternoon highs in the low 80s with minimal humidity.

LONG TERM [Sunday Through Thursday].

The quiet weather will likely continue through much of the upcoming week as dry northwest flow at the mid-levels prevails. The pattern will begin to slowly shift by the middle/end of the upcoming week as the upper level pattern grows more amplified. However, despite the amplifying upper level pattern across the US, we'll likely remain in northeast/easterly flow at the surface with steadily warming temperatures through the week.

AVIATION. [Through 00Z Saturday]

VFR conditions are expected for the TAF cycle. Winds will remain generally from the north to northeast and be below 10 kt. Gusts up to 15 kt remain possible this evening.

MARINE.

Winds and seas will lessen through the next few days with northeast winds around 10 knots and low seas around 1 to 2 feet expected by the weekend. No rain is anticipated. Easterly flow moves in by next week.

FIRE WEATHER.

As high pressure moves over the region tomorrow winds will be relatively low, leading to some borderline low dispersions across several areas along the FL Panhandle and SE Alabama. Otherwise, sunny skies will offer no cloud cover or shading of fuels.

HYDROLOGY.

Many rivers are running high, but none are forecast to flood in the next 7 days. There will be close calls with flood stage on the Ochlockonee near Concord, the Withlacoochee below Valdosta, the Fenholloway in Taylor County, and the Aucilla. About a week in the future, parts of the Suwanee will be near flood stage as upstream water gets routed downstream.

Little or no rainfall is expected in the next 7 days.

SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT.

Spotter activation is not requested. However, spotters are always encouraged to safely report significant weather conditions when they occur (while following all local, state, and CDC guidelines) by calling the office or tweeting us @NWSTallahassee.
