Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1146 PM CDT Sun Sep 26 2021

DISCUSSION.

For the 27/06Z TAF Issuance.

AVIATION.

Surface ridge continues to move off to the east and this is allowing for low level flow to become more southeast. Moisture return is deeper than earlier thinking with ceilings between 4k and 6k feet moving in off the Gulf. These clouds will persist through the night, and will likely help keep any significant radiational fog from forming. The only exception may be some light patchy during the overnight before sunrise at KAEX as cloud cover there will be thinner and at a higher level.

Moisture return will become more pronounced on Monday with mostly cloudy skies, although ceilings look to remain at mainly VFR levels. Daytime heating should work with the increase in moisture for a chance for showers or thunderstorms by 27/18Z.

PREV DISCUSSION. /issued 1037 PM CDT Sun Sep 26 2021/

DISCUSSION . The last several days and nights were a welcomed, and much needed, taste of fall. This trend has come to an end as the dry air keeping temps cool and pleasant has been replaced by a moist airmass fresh off the Gulf of Mexico. At the current hour, area temperature obs have dipped into the upper 60s to low 70s. Overnight low temperatures won't cool much further as area dewpoints are now hovering in the mid to upper 60s. It's going to be a muggy start to the morning ahead of increasing rain chances throughout the day. All that said, no update to the inherited package was necessary and the forecast looks to be on track.

PREV DISCUSSION . /issued 348 PM CDT Sun Sep 26 2021/

DISCUSSION . SHORT TERM [This afternoon through Tuesday Night] . Enjoy the last of the first taste of Autumn this afternoon because changes are on the way. The surface high responsible for the last several days of very nice weather will continue to slide off to the east tonight into tomorrow turning winds back out of the southeast and lifting a warm front north out of the gulf. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop along and south of the front as it pushes through the coastal waters tomorrow morning and progresses inland tomorrow afternoon and evening. Even outside of convection, the front will be evident by the marked increase in dewpoints which will climb back into the lower 70s in it's wake.

A cut off low situated over the four corners region is progged to slide east into north Texas Monday night into Tuesday before opening up. The trof axis will push into east Texas Tuesday where it will linger through the middle of the week before becoming absorbed by a second trof digging out of the pacific northwest. air.

Jones

LONG TERM [Wednesday through Sunday] .

Not much change in forecast reasoning from the overnight shift. The start of the period will be dominated by large scale western U.S. trough with anomalously high PWATS. Precip is still forecast to be widespread Wednesday and Thursday.

Still forecast to start drying out a bit by Friday as Cutoff develops to the west and trough digs to the east, and brings some drier air into the area.

Saturday and Sunday remain more uncertain but as of now will continue the drying trend into the weekend, more in line with the ECMWF.

Temperatures through the period are expected to be near normal, to slightly below normal.

MARINE . Light easterly winds and low seas will prevail through the night. Onshore flow will develop by late Monday morning lifting a warm front through the coastal waters. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop along and behind the front. A series of upper level disturbances will push through Texas during the week which will maintain scattered showers and thunderstorms over the coastal waters through much of the upcoming week.
