Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service New Orleans LA 1120 PM CST Tue Nov 30 2021

AVIATION(06Z TAFs).

IFR conditions still expected from 09Z through 14Z for nearly all terminals, outside of MCB, due to fog development and low stratus. Outside of this fog threat, VFR conditions are expected at all terminals from 14Z through 06Z. Conditions look favorable for widespread fog event after 06Z tomorrow due to continued light boundary layer winds and high RH values. HL

PREV DISCUSSION. /issued 838 PM CST Tue Nov 30 2021/

EVENING UPDATE .

We have dropped temperatures for certain areas over the next couple hours as well as slight MinT adjustments, mainly along the MS Gulf Coast. We are seeing strong radiative cooling in these areas this evening. Taking a look at satellite data, the cloud deck is not as extensive as it was earlier today which explains the stronger radiative cooling. -HL

AVIATION(00Z TAFs) .

IFR conditions expected from 09Z through 14Z for nearly all terminals, outside of MCB, due to fog development and low stratus. Outside of this fog threat, VFR conditions are expected at all terminals. HL

PREV DISCUSSION . /issued 404 PM CST Tue Nov 30 2021/

SHORT TERM (Tonight through Friday) .

High pressure will remain over the area bringing dry conditions with mild days and clear cool nights. A west-northwestly flow will remain in place through the next 36 hours while an upper level shortwave moves through the upper and middle MS Valley on Wednesday. Upper level ridging rebuilds behind it keeping conditions dry with a continued warming trend bringing temperatures into the middle 70s for highs though the next several days as lows will be in the upper 40s to the middle 50s. Surface high will move off to the east of the area by the latter half of the weak bringing a slow low level moisture return to the area with dewpoints returning to the 50s by Wednesday night/Thursday.

LONG TERM (Saturday through Tuesday) .

Ridging will move off to the east by the end of the week allowing for a SW flow to take hold as a lower latitude weak shortwave tracks over eastern TX Saturday AM. This feature will only bring a slight chance of showers into the area later on Saturday into Saturday night with the highest POPS being in the western half of the CWA. QPF at this time looks to be less than a 1/4 of an inch in most areas. Temperatures will remain above normal as warm thickness and 850 temps remain in place with SW flow out ahead of the next approaching system which will move into the area on Monday. Upper level trough digs through the Plains on Sunday as parallel flow potentially sets up enough on Monday to bring a more significant rain chance to the area out ahead of an approaching frontal boundary. The pattern appears to be finally trending towards a wetter pattern as we work our way into the early and middle part of next week while southern stream becomes more active through mid-week and another system follows in the wake of Monday's system.

AVIATION 18z. VFR will be the rule for daylight hours but one or two terminals could get some reduced vis toward sunrise tomorrow as patchy fog is possible.

MARINE .

High pressure will continue to allow winds to relax through Thursday. Nocturnal winds will mix to the sfc at night bringing wind speeds up to 10-15kt mainly in offshore areas. No significant weather system are expected to impact the marine area through the week with most wind speeds expected to be 10 knots or less.
