SHORT TERM /Tonight through Monday Night/ .
Dry high pressure will persist through the short term. The upper ridge centered west of the MS River will keep us in a stable northwest flow aloft. There will be a gradual warming trend as the lower level winds turn more west to southwest by Monday. However for tonight . have undercut the low temperatures a degree or so in most areas. No fire weather issues are expected with winds and low relative humidity remaining outside of critical values. With no real change in air mass . and based on this morning's fog . have added patchy fog to the far north for Monday morning.
LONG TERM /Tuesday through Sunday/ .
Tuesday kicks off the long term with a continuation of beautiful weather for the southeast. An upper level ridge across the CONUS will continue to funnel dry air into the deep parts of the southeast, reinforced low pressure across the desert SW will continue to funnel dry into the great plains inevitably into the SE. This trend will continue until the low breaks down and moves off to the north by Thursday. From there the models diverge. The GFS does bring some moisture return to the area by Saturday but the European keeps dry air socked in between another upper level low that develops across the SW and Hurricane Sam off well off in the Atlantic.
Temps will remain pleasant through this week with highs gradually increasing to the mid 80s to low 90s by Friday. Minimum RHs will hover around the low 50s and upper 40s mark keeping these warmer temps pleasant as summer tries to hold on. A cold front on the weekend will bring another round of cool dry air to the southeast indicating the return to upper 70s by the end of the weekend. Despite the differences in the synoptic scale models, the resolution for either will result in pleasant days and cool nights.
AVIATION. 06Z Update . Mainly VFR conditions are expected through the period, with the exception of some patchy visibility restrictions in the early morning hours. A cu field between 050-060 is expected to develop in the afternoon hours. Winds will be light and variable to start the period, and will become W to SW at 4-7 kts by 15Z, becoming light and variable once again after sunset.
//ATL Confidence . 06Z Update . High confidence on all elements.
