New NEAR TERM

NEAR TERM
(Tonight)
Issued at 838 PM CDT Sun May 19 2024

With high pressure layered across much of the region, quiet and seasonably warm conditions are expected into the overnight hrs.
Current temps are predom in the 70s and lows into early Mon still look to fall mainly into the lower/mid 60s. Some patchy light fog is possible overnight as well, although the coverage doesn't look to be as dense/widespread compared to early this morning.

SHORT TERM
(Monday through Wednesday)
Issued at 141 PM CDT Sun May 19 2024

Sfc high pressure will remain anchored to our east as upper ridging builds over the area, resulting in a dry but warming forecast through the short term period. Expect highs in the mid to upper 80s each day, with a few locations potentially hitting the 90 degree mark. Will start the week with light southeasterly flow, increasing on Wednesday as gradient flow tightens between the broad ridge to our south and upper troughing digging into the upper Midwest. Overall, could not really ask for better weather for late May, even if it is a tad bit warm. Remember to practice heat safety and remain hydrated if spending time outdoors!

LONG TERM
(Wednesday night through Saturday)
Issued at 254 AM CDT Sun May 19 2024

The aforementioned cold front will clip the Tennessee Valley Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing low to medium (30-60%)
chances for showers and thunderstorms -- before this activity tapers off Thursday night. We may stay in an active pattern to kick off the Memorial Day holiday weekend, thanks to zonal flow aloft allowing a couple of shortwaves to ripple through the area both Friday and Saturday. This will bring some additional chances for showers and thunderstorms both days. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures should still reach the low to perhaps mid 80s each day.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 610 PM CDT Sun May 19 2024

With high pressure in place across the region, VFR conds are generally expected thru the TAF period. The only exception may be some -br/MVFR vis early Mon morning. Light/var winds will also become SSE around 5-7kt Mon morning.
