AVIATION. 00Z TAF Cycle

VFR conditions will prevail at all three TAF sites through 00Z Saturday as only scattered to broken high level clouds are expected. South to southwest winds 5 to 15 knots will become northwest to north at both the Dalhart and Guymon TAF sites 10 to 20 knots after 15Z to 17Z Friday.

PREV DISCUSSION. /Issued 234 PM CDT Thu Sep 23 2021/

SHORT TERM . through Tomorrow Night .

Dry and warm forecast continues for the Panhandles. After some locations starting off in the 40s this morning, most locations are now above 80 degrees already this afternoon. Southwest winds gusting over 20 mph at times will subside going past sunset with overnight low temperatures in the 50s across the Panhandles.

H500 ridge building over the Panhandles will continue with large scale subsidence over the region with dry conditions into tomorrow. Slightly better H850 WAA into the Panhandles tomorrow afternoon will result in highs tomorrow ranging from the mid 80s to near 90 degrees. Perhaps a bit cooler in the northern Panhandles if the weak cold front can make its way further south into the Panhandles by tomorrow afternoon. Low tomorrow night, especially for areas behind cold front in the northern Panhandles may drop into the upper 40s with mid 50s out ahead of the front.

LONG TERM . Saturday through Wednesday Night .

High pressure will continue over the western CONUS with a cut-off low setting up over the Baja Peninsula. The ridge of high pressure will slowly shift east over the central CONUS by early next week. Gradual temperature increases are expected as the ridge shifts east. The cut-off low is expected to shift east toward the Four Corners area, but there is still some discrepancy as to what track it will take. With a weak high setting up over the Gulf, it looks like chances are better for some kind of a track to impact the Panhandles. So, right now it does seem to favor at least some precipitation chances to occur Tuesday and Wednesday, and maybe even Monday night. This setup could even bring a chance at severe weather, but given the uncertainty on the cut-off position, the severe confidence is currently low. Will note that NBM overall pops have increase from non mention up to the 20-40 percent chance, more so on Tuesday and Wednesday. Overall temperatures will be in the 80s to lower 90s for most of the extended.

Weber

AVIATION . 18Z TAFS . VFR conditions expected at all TAF sites for the 18Z TAF period. Winds will generally be out of the southwest at 10-20 kts with higher gusts at times. Closer to the end of the forecast period, a weak cold front could move into the northern Panhandles and would shift winds at KGUY to more northerly. Skies will remain mostly clear throughout TAF period.
