PREV DISCUSSION. (ISSUED 250 PM CDT Thu Sep 23 2021) Short Term . Tonight thru Saturday . It's been another pleasant day across the Natural State, in the wake of a cold front that pushed thru a couple of days ago. Milder temperatures, drier air, and predominantly clear skies have made for a nice taste of fall.
Of course all good things must come to an end, and the high pressure system that has brought this airmass to Arkansas will be shifting to the east, which will allow a southerly flow to develop by tomorrow. Temperatures will be on the upswing thru Saturday, and a few locations across western Arkansas will approach the 90 degree mark by Saturday afternoon, with 80's across much of the rest of the state.
An upper level trof will be dropping down across the Plains later tomorrow, and although there will not be any precipitation in the area, it will bring an increase in cloudiness to the area tomorrow night. Otherwise the weather will remain fairly benign.
Extended Term . Saturday Night thru Thursday . The period begins late Saturday with NW flow aloft and surface high pressure. Dry conditions are forecast early in the week. Moving into midweek, the upper level pattern appears to evolve into an omega high blocking pattern, with the ridge axis setting up across the Great Plains and shifting eastward into the Midwest region towards the end of the period. The trough on the west side of this blocking high, as well as return flow increasing moisture in the lower levels, will aid in the development of showers and thunderstorms across parts of western AR by the middle of next week. High temperatures will be in the mid 80s to lower 90s Sunday, lowering to the upper 70s and mid 80s by the end of the period. Low temperatures will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s through the period.
