Synopsis for the central california coast and bays including the Monterey bay..Greater farallones...and cordell bank national marine sanctuaries... Moderately breezy northwesterlies continue overnight and through most of the day Wednesday. Hazardous conditions are expected for smaller vessels through Wednesday night over the outer waters and near coastal jet regions. Winds will weaken by Thursday. A series of mid- period west to northwest swell continues through the forecast period.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Sacramento CA 343 PM PST Tue Jan 18 2022

SYNOPSIS. Dry weather continues through the forecast period. Patchy late night and morning fog will continue to be possible at times in the Central Valley. Breezy north to east winds are possible late in the week.

DISCUSSION. High pressure will be over the region the next several days. Patchy morning fog becoming locally dense near the central part of the valley will likely continue through Friday morning. A weak wave moving through the Great Basin will increase the pressure gradient over the region. Northerly winds in the valley to easterly over the Sierra Nevada will be occurring on Friday. The strongest winds in the valley will be over the westside with gusts up to 30 mph while some of the local favored mountains spots will likely approach 50 mph.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Saturday THROUGH Tuesday).

Clusters and ensembles are in good agreement for strong ridging continuing to build at the start of the extended period, bringing strong northerly winds on Saturday. Wind gusts on Saturday are not expected to be as strong as those on Friday, 20-35 mph and locally higher up to 45-50 mph over ridgetops and higher peaks. Ridging will continue into early next week. Dry and mild conditions will persist with lighter winds for the rest of the extended.

AVIATION.

Return of FG/BR overnight and into the early morning hours with VFR lowering to MVFR for terminals south of KMYV around 03Z-05Z Wednesday. Local LIFR conditions of 1/4SM FG by 12Z. Conditions improve to VFR by 19Z. Winds remain below 10 knots in the Valley.
