Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 1236 PM PDT Mon Oct 25 2021

SYNOPSIS. Rain and snow will diminish through this evening, with light showers possible into Tuesday afternoon. The second half of the week will be dry and warm as high pressure builds over the west. The next system may move into the region over the weekend, but is not expected to produce significant rain and snow totals.

DISCUSSION. Rain and snow intensity continues to diminish across the region into this evening. Snow showers will continue along the Sierra crest with a moist upslope flow and just a few additional inches of accumulation. Expect the mountain roads to remain slick and icy.

Ridge starts to build over the region tomorrow with some light warm air advection precipitation north of I-80. There is a 10% chance of light showers as far south as Truckee-Reno-Fallon tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures will warm through the week with 60s in the valleys and 50s for the Sierra.

Clearing skies and wet soils will increase the probability for fog to develop in valleys the next few nights. Best confidence in the northern Sierra where fog typically develops, but could see some patches a fog around western NV and in the eastern Sierra valleys.

A few simulations show a low approaching the west coast on Saturday. This system may bring light rain and snow to the region for the weekend. For now the bulk of the ensemble solutions maintain a ridge over CA & NV and deflect this low off to our north. Brong

AVIATION. Storm will continue to move out of the region tonight. Light showers remain possible into Tuesday afternoon mainly north of TRK-WMC, but could be as far south as TRK-RNO-NFL. Expect some MVFR ceilings to hang around into Tuesday before high pressure takes control for mid week. Winds and mountain wave turbulence will also subside.

With the wet and/or snow covered ground expect increasing potential for fog in valley locations. Some fog could develop as early as tonight in the northern Sierra, but could also see some fog around the western NV and eastern Sierra valleys the next 2-3 nights. Brong
