Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Northern Indiana 623 PM EST Tue Nov 30 2021

SYNOPSIS. Issued at 225 PM EST Tue Nov 30 2021

A warming trend is expected through Thursday, with slightly cooler weather returning into Friday and Saturday. There is a chance for rain showers on Wednesday and Sunday.

SHORT TERM. (This Evening through Wednesday) Issued at 225 PM EST Tue Nov 30 2021

Subsidence in between a parade of clipper like systems will likely keep skies mostly clear into this evening. This combined with diminishing winds/ridging will allow temps to quickly fall near freezing with patchy fog not out of the question. Mid level clouds then increase later tonight as warm advection commences in advance of the next upper level wave to drop through in persistent wnw flow aloft. This warm advection will be the primary driver for light rain shower chances later Wednesday morning-afternoon along a warm front, though continued to cap PoPs in the low chance range given rather weak and disjointed forcing. Mainly cloudy and relatively mild otherwise tomorrow.

LONG TERM. (Wednesday Night through Tuesday) Issued at 225 PM EST Tue Nov 30 2021

Wednesday night into Thursday will feature breezy and unseasonably mild conditions as a strong low pressure tracks north of the Canadian border on the leading edge of a 150 kt plus upper jet. A weakening cold front then trails south through the area by Thursday night with cooler (seasonable) temps and mainly dry conditions to follow Friday-Saturday.

A more active pattern is expected Sunday into early next week as a stronger hybrid clipper tracks through the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. This consensus track favor increasing rain chances Sunday/Sunday night, followed by sharply colder temps and gusty winds Monday.

AVIATION. (For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Wednesday Evening) Issued at 622 PM EST Tue Nov 30 2021

A departing cold front with following high pressure system stalls out just to our south overnight tonight. However, it is expected to come back north in the form of a warm front Wednesday morning and may allow for a period of fog during the morning or the latter part of the TAF period. This is as cold air is able to drain south overnight allowing for cross-over temperatures conducive to fog at FWA. Model soundings are also producing low level inversions conducive to trapping moisture underneath them as winds go light tonight. Even still, there's lower confidence as models (aside from the NAM) are not producing a reduced visibility parameter. Perhaps this is because it's too dry or clouds may come in shutting off the chance. Cannot discount the chance for some shallow ground fog in places by tomorrow morning based on the above discussion. Either way, this warrants further watching going forward.

A better chance exists for reduced flight conditions as we head into the afternoon period as MVFR CIGs move in ahead of the warm front.
