UPDATE. (Issued 935 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021)

High pressure to our north will gradually sink south tonight towards the area. Still seeing some gusty winds over Lake Michigan, which is keeping lakeshore areas a little warmer. Otherwise inland locations are cooling off with winds becoming light. Dewpoint depressions remain large enough that think fog shouldn't be an issue overnight. Could see some develop in the river valley and low lying areas but it won't be widespread. The forecast is in good shape and no major changes are needed.

SHORT TERM. (Issued 309 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021)

Tonight through Tuesday night:

High pressure will build into the area tonight into Tuesday, keeping skies mostly clear through tomorrow night. The NAM is showing fog possible tonight, but the RAP and GFS are much drier in the low levels, so left out mention of fog for now. Temps will be well above normal again Tuesday, especially away from Lake Michigan. Onshore winds will keep it a bit cooler near the lake.

DDV

LONG TERM. (Issued 309 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021)

Wednesday through Monday:

High pressure centered to the east of Wisconsin will keep it mainly dry through the second half of the work week. There are still signs of increasing rain chances by the weekend as the upper level ridge flattens and shifts southward. Temps will likely remain above normal through this period, though it looks like things will gradually cool down late week through the weekend as the upper level pattern changes.

DDV

AVIATION. (Issued 935 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021)

High pressure over Lake Superior will sag south tonight into Tuesday. A few stronger northeasterly gusts remain possible closer to Lake Michigan through 08z. Then winds decrease but remain out of the north. Some patchy fog is possible but this should stay away from the terminals. Lighter winds and clear skies are expected for Tuesday.

Stumpf

MARINE. (Issued 309 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021)

Gusty north to northeast winds behind a cold front will continue into this evening, winding down overnight as high pressure builds in over Lake Michigan. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 12Z Tue for the winds and then lingering higher waves.

Lighter winds will continue through at least mid week as the high shifts only a little eastward and strengthens a bit. Southerly winds may pick up later in the week as the pressure gradient tightens on the western edge of the high.

DDV

BEACHES. (Issued 935 PM CDT Mon Sep 27 2021)

Gusty north to northeast winds begin to diminish overnight but waves of 3 to 5 feet will be slow to fall tonight. A high swim risk to all Lake Michigan beaches will continue until early Tuesday morning.

Stay out of the water and away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls. Strong structural and longshore currents are expected, and rip currents are possible.
