DISCUSSION. Morning satellite pics showing an area of high clouds over Idaho. The clouds are along a leading edge of an upper ridge which will build into the area through Friday. The rest of today is dry and mild with clear skies over southeast Oregon and decreasing clouds over southwest Idaho.
AVIATION. VFR with passing high clouds. Turbulence above 24000 ft. Surface winds: northwest to west 5-15 kt. Winds aloft at 10k feet MSL: north-northeast 5-15 kt.
Weekend Outlook . VFR. Light surface winds through Sunday morning, becoming breezy west-southwest winds Sunday afternoon.
PREV DISCUSSION. SHORT TERM . Today through Saturday night . A few lingering showers in the Magic Valley from a low pressure system that moved through the area Wednesday night will clear by morning. This morning, northwest flow ahead of a building ridge will bring scattered clouds to western Idaho and eastern Oregon. Dry and clear conditions will persist through Saturday evening as the ridge of high pressure brings warm temperatures and light winds to southwestern Idaho and southeastern Oregon.
LONG TERM . Sunday through Thursday . A southwest flow aloft will bring warm and dry conditions to the region Sunday and Monday. Breezy winds will develop Sunday afternoon and are expected to strengthen on Monday, becoming windy in some areas during the afternoon as a system approaches the coast. Temperatures will be above normal both days. An upper trough will arrive by Tuesday, preceded by a cold front Monday night. The trough will bring a chance of rain (favoring the higher elevations) Tuesday and Wednesday along with cooler temperatures and breezy northwest winds. Dry weather returns on Thursday as a weak upper ridge develops ahead of the next Pacific trough. Temperatures are expected to be slightly warmer, although remaining below normal.
