Updated aviation portion for 06Z TAF issuance

SHORT TERM. Tonight and Monday Issued at 226 PM CDT Sun Sep 26 2021

The shortwave had been steadily progressing across the region this afternoon, keeping skies cloudy for the majority of northeast Wisconsin. Some light returns were visible on radar through the morning, but given how dry the layers were below and the height of the cloud deck, most of this has likely been virga. Still, added a few mentions of drizzle for a short window this afternoon.

Tonight, skies are expected to clear behind the departing shortwave. Quiet and dry conditions are once again anticipated as surface high pressure builds back into the region. Fortunately, the WAA from the past day will keep temperatures in the middle to lower 40s, so no frost is expected, although some patch fog may develop in a few locations of central WI.

Monday will see the full influence of surface high pressure to our north, with clear skies and easterly winds at the surface. Kept temperatures fairly similar to today, as the extra sunshine should help offset the lack of southwest wind flow. The only exception will be along the lakeshore, as some cooler air will likely affect the areas near the shoreline after the past couple days of westerly flow.

LONG TERM. Monday Night Through Sunday Issued at 226 PM CDT Sun Sep 26 2021

Upper level ridging will keep the weather warm and dry for much of the week with temperatures a good 5 to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Wednesday looks to be the warmest day of the week as high temperatures soar to around 80 across central and east-central Wisconsin away from Lake Michigan.

The forecast gets a bit less clear late into the week and into next weekend as a low pressure system is slated to track through the western Great Lakes region. The GFS has been fairly consistent in bringing this low and the associated precipitation through Friday into Saturday, while the ECMWF holds the system off until Saturday and next Sunday, and the Canadian model brings the system through on Saturday but with not much precipitation associated with it. Given the model differences will maintain the NBM for POPs during this period. Overall it appears we will have a shot at precipitation sometime late next week and into next weekend, but the exact timing is still up in the air.

AVIATION. for 06Z TAF Issuance Issued at 1139 PM CDT Sun Sep 26 2021

Areas of ground fog are expected overnight, especially in central and northcentral Wisconsin. It should dissipate by 14z Monday. VFR conditions are expected Monday and Monday evening. Some ground fog is possible again late Monday night and early Tuesday.

GRB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES. NONE.
