Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gaylord MI 1145 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

UPDATE. Issued at 953 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

Low pressure continues to make its way thru the Western Great Lakes region late this evening. Area of scattered to numerous showers that developed ahead of this system and impacted our region late this afternoon and evening is gradually exiting our CWA Widely scattered light showers remain. and should eventually come to an end overnight as high pressure begins to build into our region Temps will only fall a few more degrees overnight. with lows mainly in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

NEAR TERM. (Through Tonight) Issued at 106 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

APX radar and surface observations indicate the light rain showers from this morning have pretty much dissipated/moved off to our east. Lingering slight chances for light rain showers or sprinkles through the remainder of the afternoon as modest mid-level warm air advection/isentropic ascent continues. Meanwhile, a weak and moisture starved cold front will move across the region early tonight perhaps accompanied by a couple of showers. Otherwise, clouds should at least partially clear overnight. The clearing in combination with light winds could lead to patchy fog development. Raised lows a bit into the mid 40s north to the mid 50s near the lake shores.

SHORT TERM. (Monday through Wednesday) Issued at 106 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

. Warm Daytime Temperatures, Cool Nights .

High impact weather: None is expected.

A fairly weak area of surface high pressure builds into northern Michigan from the northwest through the period. Meanwhile, heights aloft slowly rise as a strengthening ridge builds across the Plains. Still cool enough aloft Monday to allow for some diurnally driven clouds but drier air/subsidence by Tuesday should lead to mostly clear skies. Temperatures will be near to slightly above normal Monday with highs in the mid 60s to around 70 then warm into the upper 60s and low 70s Tuesday.

LONG TERM. (Wednesday night through Sunday) Issued at 106 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

. Pleasant Early Autumn Weather .

High impact weather potential: None is expected.

The well advertised ridge continues to move slowly into the Great Lakes region into at least Thursday leading to more pleasant weather. Extended models then vary on the evolution of the pattern. Some extended guidance including the ECMWF keep the ridge in tact for the most part while others drive a trough through the ridge late in the week or next weekend. Am siding with the ridge scenario for now but will have to hedge my bets a bit just in case and introduce slight chances for showers. Temperatures should remain near to slightly above normal, perhaps a bit cooler heading into next weekend.

AVIATION. (For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Monday night) Issued at 1145 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

Low pressure will slowly slide thru Northern Michigan overnight. Residual light showers will come to an end . and VFR conditions will prevail. High pressure and drier air will build into the Western Great Lakes on Monday . with solid VFR conditions expected. LLWS will continue to impact portions of Northern Lower Michigan overnight into early Monday just ahead of the low center. Surface winds will shift to the north at around 10 kts on Monday.

MARINE. Issued at 106 PM EDT Sun Sep 26 2021

A weak front drops in from the north late tonight, with winds veering northerly (while remaining light) into Monday. High pressure will be in control leading to mostly clear skies for Monday night into Tuesday.
