DISCUSSION.

Today through Friday Night .

Shortwave trough was working across the northern Rockies this morning and this was allowing a cold front to slide through the area. This front will not have a big cool punch as dewpoints remain low. Adjusted highs up a few degrees based on new guidance and the thought that low dewpoints will be able to warm readily today. The potential limiting factor to the warmer temperatures will be clouds, so just raised highs a few degrees. Dry airmass will greatly reduce PoP chances and will leave those confined to the higher terrain. Winds do not look terribly strong today. Strongest 850mb winds (30kts) come through the east early this morning. Winds weaken at 850mb through the day and thus will only be able to mix 15kts or so. This will translate to winds of 10-20mph, with perhaps a gust of 25mph over the east today. Northwest flow takes over for Friday and this should be a cooler day (especially east, as Baker may not make it out of the 60s). The rest of the area will have lower 70s. TWH

Friday night through Wednesday .

Broad ridging will dominate the Northern Rockies through the weekend. This will bring a return of above normal temperatures to the area. Highs will be in the 80s through early next week. Along with the warm temperatures will come low relative humidity, generally down into the teens. Winds will be fairly light under the ridge. By Monday, the ridge axis will start to push towards the MT/Dakotas border. This will start to bring in southwesterly flow aloft the the western mountains, but overall the dry weather will continue. Tuesday will start a slight chance for showers into the southwest mountains as a trough starts to move into the Pacific Coast, amplifying the flow pattern. By Wednesday the models start to increase the spread of solution with the evolution of this trough, so for now have kept to the NBM consensus until the models can get a better handle on this evolution. There is a strong signal for temperatures to trend down some. Reimer

AVIATION.

VFR will prevail today with mid and high clouds. Northwest winds will gust 15-20kts today, with strongest gusts east of KBIL. Isolated showers will be confined to the mountains. TWH
