Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 715 PM PDT Mon Sep 27 2021

SYNOPSIS. An upper level trough will keep showers in the forecast tonight and into Tuesday. The potential for isolated thunderstorms will be present late Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon. Another system will bring additional rain and wind to the region Wednesday night and Thursday before drier conditions return for the end of the week.

SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/. Scattered showers remain present on the radar this evening with isolated high-intensity echoes over portions of King and Skagit counties. Current satellite shows clouds to be fairly limited in vertical reach and no lightning strikes have been detected . so these echoes likely to indicate brief periods of heavy rainfall. Remaining echoes generally indicating light rain.

Showers will continue to push onshore overnight into Tuesday. By Tuesday afternoon, the threat becomes increasingly limited to a PSCZ that is likely to develop over Snohomish County. Thunderstorms will be possible once again in this area.

A brief break is expected Tuesday night before focus turns to the next system that will slide across the region Wednesday and Thursday. Winds and rain will be the main threats once again with this storm. Advisory level winds look to be possible across the coast and north interior. Additional rainfall of 1-2 inches appear likely in the NBM for the mountains and coastal areas with 0.5-1 inch of rain in most lowland areas. Rain will taper off Thursday night.

Inherited forecast looks on track and see no need for an evening forecast update. 18/Wolcott

LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/. From Previous Discussion . Drier conditions are expected Friday through the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s to around 70 by Sunday.

Wolcott

AVIATION. Southwesterly flow aloft turning more westerly overnight. This flow will then become northwesterly by mid to late morning Tuesday. The atmosphere still has a little instability from the afternoon but will stabilize as the evening progresses.

With the main front having pushed east out of the CWA, cigs over W WA are starting to recover with VFR conditions present for points and terminals west of the Sound while MVFR conditions linger for locations along the Sound and east. May continue to see some of this gradual improvement during the evening hours, but moisture from earlier rains will allow for widespread stratus/fog development, likely resulting in widespread MVFR to IFR conditions overnight and into Tuesday morning. Lingering showers may slow cig recovery Tuesday afternoon, but VFR conditions should re-emerge by late afternoon/early evening. Breezy southerly winds tonight easing a bit through Tuesday.

KSEA . VFR cigs in place early this evening eventually lowering down to MVFR tonight. MVFR conditions persisting into late Tuesday morning/early Tuesday afternoon before recovering to VFR. South to southwesterly winds will persist with wind speeds 8-12 kts. 18

MARINE. Breezy winds expected to develop over most of the waters tonight with Small Craft Advisory level winds forecast for the northern inland waters, Admiralty Inlet, and Puget Sound tonight into Tuesday morning. Both SCA level winds and seas will persist over the coastal waters into Tuesday morning. Seas will be around 17 ft over the outermost coastal waters through Tuesday morning with seas of 13 to 15 ft near the shore. As such, inherited headlines look good and will remain in place for the evening update.

A front will move through Wednesday and Thursday for another round of gales possible for the coastal waters, as well as the northern inland waters and the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca. Breezy elsewhere with seas building above 10 ft for the waters behind the front. Ridging will build into the area late week. 18/JD
