SHORT TERM
/Through Thursday night/ Weather across the panhandle is remaining fairly quiet through the next 24 hours. The clouds that lingered in the panhandle earlier this week have been blown well offshore by increasing offshore flow. The result is mostly clear skies into Thursday night. Temperatures have reached below freezing in some areas of the north again this morning due to the clear skies. After warming today temps will likely drop again tonight, but are likely to be a few degrees warmer. Frost advisories may be needed again tonight for some areas of the north.
Winds are expected to mostly be light today with the exception of the stronger areas of sea breeze this afternoon. Tonight, northerly winds will be more of a factor but should top out at 15 kt or so. Winds and seas are more of a factor for the gulf waters as a low over the south central gulf brings 25 to 30 kt E to SE winds and 10 ft seas to the offshore zones for today into tonight. Winds and seas are expected to weaken late Thursday night as the low generating them weakens as well.
LONG TERM
/ Friday to Monday night / Weak high pressure over the eastern gulf and panhandle are holding in place through Friday. A short wave will move from the southwestern gulf across the southern gulf and southeast towards the Pacific Northwest by Friday morning. A larger low moves into the Bering Sea Friday and Saturday while drifting east. The associated frontal will move into the panhandle area late Saturday, with main panhandle more Sunday and continuing into early Monday. Widespread showers behind the Sunday front will keep rain going into Monday.
AVIATION
VFR conditions are widespread across the panhandle this morning with some low to mid level clouds across the area, but overall fairly clear skies exist this morning. The only exception to this may be isolated areas experiencing some shallow fog that should dissipate by mid morning as we see daytime heating kick in.
High level clouds are expected to move in throughout the day but conditions are expected to remain VFR for the TAF period. Overall, it is expected to be good flying weather for the TAF period today.
AJK WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
PUBLIC...Frost Advisory until 9 AM AKDT this morning for AKZ317-319>322- 324-325.
