Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1038 PM EDT Fri Apr 26 2024

New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION

DISCUSSION
Issued at 1019 PM EDT Fri Apr 26 2024 High pressure centered near New England stretches southwest across Florida. A lingering trough axis north of the Bahamas will be washed out by the building high overnight. East winds at the Reef average 18 to 21 knots, and should increase a few knots overnight.
Temperatures fell into the mid 70s shortly after sunset, but given the SSTs near 80 should not fall much further. The KKEY RAOB sampled a dry and stable profile, kind of par for the course for late April. The KBYX radar is echo free aside from northbound birds. The forecast calls for nil rain chances overnight.
Satellite derived moisture products in conjunction with low-level SPC mesoanalysis products suggest better moisture over the central Bahamas may pivot into the Keys late Saturday morning. Slight rain chances may need to be included if these trends continue. No changes are needed with the inherited forecast.

MARINE
Issued at 1019 PM EDT Fri Apr 26 2024 Small Craft Advisory in effect for all coastal waters of the Florida Keys due to east winds 20 to 25 knots. High pressure centered over New England will dive southeastward into the western North Atlantic through the weekend. Easterly breezes will continue to freshen overnight, with strong breezes expected through at least Sunday. As the high weakens somewhat south of Bermuda early next week, breezes will modestly slacken, although occasionally fresh breezes will continue through at least Wednesday.

AVIATION
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 1019 PM EDT Fri Apr 26 2024 VFR and gusty easterly breezes will prevail at the EYW and MTH terminals overnight.
