Discussion
Currently
A strong cold front (associated with a cold-core upper-level low)
is moving across the midwest and into the mississippi river
valley, spawning severe weather across eastern texas, arkansas and
missouri. A surface ridge lies ahead of it in the western
atlantic, producing moderate easterly flow across the florida
keys, though breezes are decoupled on land at this time. Goes-16
nighttime microphysics satellite imagery indicates a few streaks
of cirrus moving through the keys, accompanied with patchy stratus
moving through the florida straits and offshore gulf waters. Kbyx
is operating in a degraded state at this time, but is picking up
on a few light precip echos offshore. Dew points are in the upper
60s, and temperatures are near 70 degrees. Offshore, cman
stations are reporting near 15 knot easterly breezes near the
reef and dry tortugas, with 10-15 knot flow in the bayside waters.

Short term (today through Tuesday)
The aforementioned synoptic systems will continue shifting
eastward, but a left-over belt of moisture will linger off the
straits of florida before pivoting northwest ahead of a cold front
approaching the northeast gulf coast. This will produce another
day of variable cloud cover across the island chain (ranging from
partly to mostly cloudy at times). Instability and forcing will
remain quite low today, though pwat will be higher due to the
deepening moisture profile. Will keep the isolated showers dime
pops in the forecast for today, with dew points gradually rising
to the 70 degree mark overnight. Temperatures will remain slightly
above normal.

Tonight, the cold front moves into NW florida, pushing shower
activity and a few thunderstorms ahead of it. Forecast models
generally depict scattered isolated activity moving through our
forecast domain late tonight into Tuesday, though the ecmwf
continues to be far more rain-optimistic than the gfs. Have
increased to 'chance' wording across the island chain, but kept
isolated wording for the coastal waters accordingly. Forecast
model soundings indicate convective trigger and instability
parameters will remain low, so thunderstorms remain out of the
forecast for the keys.

Long term (Tuesday night through Sunday night)
The cold front will decrease in forward motion, gradually limping
across central florida Tuesday night, drifting to south florida
Wednesday, and possibly approaching near, or stalling north of the
florida keys thurs Fri as strong surface ridging builds across the
southeast us. Expect cooler conditions and a decrease in
humidity levels late week through the early weekend as a result.

The high pressure cell escapes to the northeastern atlantic fri
night Sat as a weak upper trough moves though the eastern conus.

Veering and a measure of isentropic lift will occur across the
eastern gulf, ahead of another possible approaching baroclinic
boundary. This will increase moisture and temps again late in the
weekend.

Marine
Small craft should exercise caution in the florida straits until
winds decrease late tonight. High pressure will extend from the
western atlantic to across north florida through tonight, then
retreat eastward Tuesday through early Wednesday. Winds will
increase and seas will build once again Wednesday in response to
another intensifying high pressure system over the south central
united states. This system will expand eastward late Wednesday,
reaching just offshore of south carolina Thursday.

Aviation
Vfr conditions will prevail at eyw and mth. With that said, ample
lower level moisture will bring in cloud decks at multiple levels.

Ceilings will generally beVFR, but a few pockets of MVFR ceilings
will be possible. Surface winds will be out of the east near 10
knots.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
