Discussion
An upper-level composite analysis this evening reveals a deep
layer mean anticyclone centered over the northwestern caribbean
sea and adjacent western subtropical north atlantic. Data from the
key west evening radiosonde balloon indicated near-record warmth
through the lower and middle troposphere. For example, the 500-mb
geopotential height was 5930 meters, impressive for any season. A
strong subsidence inversion was noted just above 850mb, with a
deep layer of dry air above. Meanwhile, the near-surface layer was
close to maritime tropical. Currently, air temperatures are still
near 80f in many keys island communities, with dewpoint
temperatures in the lower to mid 70s. Although some weak
instability was noted in the sounding, the thermodynamic
environment overall is quite hostile to any type of significant
convection. Indeed, key west doppler radar scans have been void of
precipitation echoes all day. Northward-moving echoes are
indicative of the seasonal migration of various species of birds
from the caribbean central south america.

We have updated the forecasts to reduce overnight rain chances and
increase the low temperatures. A moderate south-southeast breeze
should keep air temperatures from falling out of the upper 70s in
most areas.

Marine
No watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for florida keys
coastal waters zones. However, small craft should exercise caution
for sse winds 15-20 knots in the straits of florida. A high
pressure cell will extend from the western north atlantic to the
gulf of mexico overnight through Tuesday. This system will be
reinforced by an expanding and intensifying continental high
pressure cell, from Tuesday night through Wednesday night,
resulting in freshening breezes across florida keys coastal
waters.

Aviation
Through 18 24z, prevailingVFR conditions are expected at both eyw
and mth. A few transientVFR stratocumulus ceilings are possible
at either terminal overnight. Southerly crosswinds will remain 10
knots or less.

Climate
The high temperature at the florida keys marathon international
airport was 87f today. This breaks the 17 february record of 84f
set in 1959, 2001, and 2009. Temperature records at marathon date
back to 1950.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
