Update (overnight through Wednesday night)
Well folks... Some people in florida like to see a few
periods of cold temperatures in winter, and some certainly
do not. For the next couple of days, the ones that like the
cold will be the happy ones.

Conditions are benign around west-central and southwest
florida this evening... And will remain so throughout the
night. Its dry out there, and temperatures will slowly cool
off, but stay seasonable... As a strong cold front... Scheduled
for our area on Wednesday... Remains off to our northwest
through the duration of the overnight.

Overall... The daylight hours of Wednesday will not be all
that bad either... Other than becoming a bit gusty out of the
north for the second half of the day. The strong cold front
that is bringing some wintry precip to portions of ms al ga
this evening will arrive over the northern fl peninsula ne
gulf of mexico Wednesday morning... And sweep quickly
southward through the peninsula during the day. By the time
the front gets down to the florida peninsula... No more
precipitation is expected... As the strong synoptic ascent
shifts eastward... And not southward with the front.

Therefore... This will be a dry frontal passage, with just a
band of clouds likely hiding the Sun for a few hours.

Coolest conditions during the day Wednesday will be up over
the northern nature coast, where the front moves through the
earliest... And where highs in the 50s should be expected.

High temperatures warm to the lower mid 60s around the i-4
corridor... And upper 60s down toward fort myers. These high
temperatures (especially along the i-4 corridor) will prob
occur around midday... And then hold steady or begin to
slowly fall through the afternoon hours.

We all feel the impact of the cold front Wednesday night.

Low temperatures dropping to freezing or below are expected
down to as far south as the i-4 corridor... With mid upper
30s all the way to fort myers. Freeze and hard freeze
watches are in effect from the i-4 corridor northward for
Wednesday night... And it is likely these will be upgrade to
warnings later tonight or Wednesday. Those that do not see
freezing temperatures Wednesday night will still experience
the cold temperatures and low wind chills. It is likely
based on the current forecast, that all zones will require a
wind chill advisory for Wednesday night early Thursday
morning.

Try and stay warm later Wednesday into Thursday everyone. We
are looking at another very cold night Thursday night into
Friday morning as well. However, if you can hang in there
till the upcoming weekend, all indications are that we will
all experience a pleasant and quite rapid warm-up.

Aviation
Vfr conditions prevail through the evening hours with a
light generally northerly flow. Late tonight... A brief
period of shallow field fog (MVFR ifr) is a possibility for
places like klal kpgd. Any shallow fog lifts early
Wednesday... Followed by the approach of a strong cold front.

No rain is expected with this front... However... A period of
MVFR CIGS is possible... Especially for ktpa kpie ksrq as the
front passes. Gusty northerly winds and prevailingVFR
conditions will the be in the forecast for all terminals
from late Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

Marine
Strong winds and rough seas will expand across the eastern gulf
of mexico during the day Wednesday in the wake of a cold front.

These hazardous boating conditions for small craft operators will
continue through much of Wednesday night before subsiding late
Wednesday night into the daylight hours Thursday. Following the
advisory event... High pressure centered to the north of the region
brings lighter easterly winds and calmer seas for the end of the
week.

Prev discussion issued 241 pm est Tue jan 16 2018
short term (tonight through Wednesday)...

clear skies and light winds will lead to patchy fog along
and east of interstate 75 overnight. Cold front to reach
chiefland around 12z then move south of fort myers by 20z.

A dry airmass ahead of the front means any rain will be
isolated and offshore.

Long term (Wednesday night through the weekend)...

we are starting off Wednesday night with a powerful cold front
exiting the area. The front will bring an arctic airmass over the
region dropping the temperature quickly overnight. Lows will get
into the mid to upper 20's north of i-4 with at or below freezing
temperatures expected as far south as interior sarasota county. This
is expected to be the coldest morning we have seen so far this
winter with highs stuck in the 50's for almost all of us in the
afternoon.

This cold air will not be sticking around for to long. We will have
one more night night on Thursday with areas north of i-4 still
getting at or below freezing. After that most models agree on a
quick warming trend through the weekend. Highs on Sunday should be
in the 70's for all of us with some spots getting close to 80
degrees. A weak upper level system will slide through south florida
on Sunday bringing some extra clouds and a small chance of showers
south of hillsborough and polk county.

A weak cold front will be heading our way sometime on Monday or
Tuesday so have introduced small rain chances for beginning of next
week. Currently models are not showing a lot of cold air behind this
system with high temperatures staying in the 70's.

Fire weather...

patchy fog is possible late tonight mainly east of
interstate 75. A strong cold front will move through the
area Wednesday. Humidities fall below 35% Thursday afternoon
from the tampa bay area northward. Ercs and wind to be below
red flag criteria.
