DISCUSSION
A cold front remains draped across the Florida peninsula early this morning and will continue to drift southward, with cooler and drier air moving over the region. Some showers continue over mainly Lee County, but those will gradually come to an end over the next couple of hours. High pressure will then quickly build in over the southeast, allowing skies to clear for the day, though temperatures this afternoon will only top out in the mid 60s north to mid 70s south. Lows tonight will be rather cool, with 40s and 50s expected area-wide, then we can expect temps tomorrow afternoon a few degrees warmer than today. Overall, a pleasantly cool couple of days ahead.
For Thursday, surface high pressure will shift over the Atlantic as heights build in response to a shortwave moving into Texas. For the local area, this means slightly increased moisture and temperatures rising into the upper 70s to lower 80s.
Thursday night into Friday is when the forecast gets more interesting. Shortwave energy will move over the deep south as a surface low forms over the northern Gulf of Mexico region sometime Thursday night. These features will progress across the state through Friday, bringing widespread showers and likely some thunderstorms as well. Global models are still not totally in agreement as far as timing, but overall confidence in the rain itself remains high. We will also have to keep an eye on the potential for a few strong or possibly severe storms, but we do still have a few days to hammer down those details.
We could still be dealing with some lingering showers as we head into Saturday, though these model differences will hopefully decrease over the next couple of days. Either way, we will get another shot of drier air to end the weekend, but temperatures will not cool much as heights quickly rise once again going into early next week.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
A cold front continues to push across the region, with showers and some limited impacts expected over the next couple of hours for KFMY and KRSW. Otherwise, VFR conditions are generally expected through the forecast period. Only other concern is some gustiness at all sites this morning, generally diminishing through the day.
MARINE
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through the first half of today before winds and seas slowly diminish. No further headlines are expected through Thursday, then an approaching storm system will bring showers and thunderstorms to the region on Friday, along with increasing winds and seas.
FIRE WEATHER
Much drier and cooler air will continue to move into the region today, with several hours of critically low relative humidity values expected today and tomorrow across the whole area. However, neither ERC values nor winds are expected to meet Red Flag thresholds.
Conditions then improve through the rest of the week.
