look for another round of storms to develop near the coast today - .and also again tonight into Sunday morning. Heavy rain, along with strong winds and lightning, will be possible at times. Some of the stronger storms may also produce a brief stronger wind gust and locally elevated seas. Rainfall chances finally diminish heading into Monday with only isolated activity expected through the middle of next week. Winds and seas will generally remain below caution thresholds.

New AVIATION

SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Sunday night)
Issued at 146 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Key Messages:

- Flash flood watch extended through Sunday evening.

I don't want to complain, because I know we need the rain, but this forecaster could do with a little sunshine. Fortunately, we may actually start to see the sun again Sunday. In the meantime, showers and thunderstorms will continue as the mid to upper level disturbances continue to linger over the area. Deep tropical moisture remains in place, with PWATs of 2.22" on the 00Z CRP sounding. Models continue an increase in PWATs to around 2.5" during the afternoon today, much like the previous few days. An additional 1-3" of rain is possible through the weekend, with some showers having rainfall rates of 2-4" per hour possible. Saturated soils mean that we just are not able to absorb the moisture leading to a continued flooding threat.

By Sunday, high pressure will begin to build into the area ending rain chances, but there is still some question about when precipitation will come to an end. It is possible that the rain could end by midday with some sun poking through the clouds. It is also possible that we could have showers and storms into the afternoon before we start to see the sun. Due to this uncertainty, we have extended our Flood Watch until Sunday evening. I know there are few places that have not seen a ton of rain (I see you Brush Country and Rio Grande Plains) but we could see a bit more increased coverage in showers for these areas today through midday Sunday.

LONG TERM
(Monday through next Friday)
Issued at 146 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Key Messages:

- Minor to moderate risk of heat related impacts next week.

The atmospheric pattern during the long term period will predominately feature an area of high pressure over the Southern Plains throughout the week promoting dry conditions through much of the work-week. A weak disturbance over the Gulf will move east to west across the region towards the end of the week and will increase rain chances slightly to a low chance around 20%, mainly over the northeastern portions of the CWA The GEF's ensemble mean for PWAT's during the latter part of the week are around 1.70" which is slightly below normal for this time of year.

Temperatures and Heat Index

Temperatures will trend upward next week and will range from 90-100 degrees across the region. Combined with dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s, heat index values are expected to range from 105-109 degrees. Some localized area in the Coastal Plains/northern Brush Country could see Heat Indices of at least 110 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Regardless, this will continue to pose a minor to moderate risk of heat-related impacts for the region for much of next week.

AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 605 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Showers and the occasional thunderstorm have developed and over the Coastal Plains and Victoria Crossroads. Convective activity is expected to continue, with coverage increasing through morning.
Model guidance hints at some breaks in the precipitation today but expect mainly rainy conditions at most terminals. Heavy rainfall will be possible at times. MVFR to IFR conditions will be possible in and around the heaviest rainfall, with mostly VFR conditions otherwise.

MARINE
Issued at 146 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

A generally weak to moderate onshore flow is expected through the weekend, becoming moderate at times through the week next week.
Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms expected through this weekend with drier conditions through the work week.
