Some of the stronger storms may also produce a brief stronger wind gust and locally elevated seas. Rainfall chances finally diminish heading into Monday with only isolated activity expected through the middle of next week. Winds and seas will generally remain below caution thresholds.

New AVIATION

SHORT TERM
(Today through Sunday Night)
Issued at 256 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

An upper level trough remains in place over the Southern Plains, with ridging present over the NE Gulf of Mexico and Baja California.
A coastal trough off the Texas coast will continue to supply forcing and moisture for scattered to numerous showers/storms early this weekend, especially as shortwave impulses pass overhead. Deep saturation, PWs of 2.0-2.4 inches, and modest instability should give these storms high precipitation efficiency, capable of producing locally heavy rainfall. Short range guidance and radar both suggest that the next round of rainfall has already begun along the coastline, with a convergence zone setting up near Matagorda. Activity is progged to increase through later this morning, with showers/storms coverage later waning this afternoon.
Sunday also features a similar setup as well, with another train of shortwaves triggering a second round of storms Sunday morning, tapering off Sunday evening. The heavy rainfall threat looks to be less potent on Sunday, in part due to a midlevel high/ridge strengthening over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico.

WPC has areas along and south of I-10 under a Slight (level 2/4)
Risk of Excessive rainfall for today. A Flood Watch remains in effect for these locations until 1 PM this afternoon. For Sunday, portion of SE Texas will be under a Marginal (level 1/4) Risk of Excessive rainfall. An additional 1-3 inches of rainfall is expected through Sunday night, though isolated higher amounts will still be possible, especially near the coast. As we've seen on previous days, theses totals could fall over the course of a few hours, resulting in flash flooding. Clogged storm drains may further exasperate flooding, so try to keep them clear of any lingering debris from Hurricane Beryl.

With rain chances diminishing from the building ridge, temperatures are also progged to rise over the weekend into next week. Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s today, reaching the upper 80s on Sunday. Isolated spots could even reach the 90 degree mark.

03

LONG TERM
(Monday through Friday)
Issued at 256 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

A break from moderate to heavy rain will finally arrive to SE TX early next week as a ridge of high pressure builds in and the upper- level trough/vort maxes weakens/move out of the region. The lack of mid-upper level forcing will diminish the risk of heavy rainfall.
Rain & storm chances, however, will continue each day with the combination of daytime heating and any sea/bay breeze interaction in the afternoon. Therefore, will continue with low PoPs through the week. Unfortunately, less rain chances and the influence of the high pressure will result in increasing temperatures. We will transition from below temperatures to near to slightly above normal temperatures. 850 mb temperatures are progged to climb into the upper teens to low 20s degC for the first week of August. At the surface, these values could depict temperatures into the low to mid 90s.

AVIATION
(12Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 622 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Scattered to numerous storms are expected across SE Texas this morning, with periods of MVFR CIGS/VIS. Storms may produce locally heavy rainfall at times, resulting in instances of lower visibility. Showers and thunderstorms activity should decrease during the afternoon, with a lull in rain activity this evening.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms can be expected early Sunday morning, along with MVFR CIGS/VIS.

MARINE
Issued at 256 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Another round of scattered to numerous showers, heavy at times, and thunderstorms will continue to develop today as a disturbance/surface trough develop along the coast. Heavy rain, strong winds, brief elevated seas and lightning will be possible with the strongest storms. Precipitation chances diminish late this afternoon/early evening. One more day of active weather conditions is expected later tonight into Sunday with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Surface high pressure will finally build to our east early next week, resulting in low rain/storm chances each day. Light to moderate onshore winds and seas will prevail through the week.
