SYNOPSIS
There is a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms for this afternoon and evening, mainly for the mountains in Riverside and San Diego Counties and for the eastern Inland Empire. There is a slight chance of afternoon showers on Wednesday for the mountains. It will be warmer inland for Wednesday through Friday with high temperatures a few to around 5 degrees above average.
Then much cooler inland for the weekend into early next week as a low pressure system moving inland through the western states brings chances for showers from the coast to the mountains and stronger and gusty west winds for the mountains and deserts.

.SHORT TERM (Today through Thursday)...
The low pressure system that's been stalled over the southwest states will begin to move eastward today. The HRRR has the most likely locations for showers and thunderstorms for this afternoon and early evening for the mountains of Riverside and San Diego Counties and for the eastern Inland Empire. There could still be a few showers for Wednesday afternoon, mainly for the mountains.
It will be warmer for inland areas for Wednesday through Friday with high temperatures a few to around 5 degrees above average.
The local NAM-bounded WRF shows a coastal eddy for tonight into Wednesday morning and again for late Wednesday night into Thursday with some return of night and morning low clouds for coastal areas and portions of the valleys with not much change in high temperatures for coastal areas through Friday.
.LONG TERM (Friday through Monday)...
There remain differences in the timing and details of a low pressure system moving inland through the western states for the weekend into early next week. This will strengthen the onshore flow across southern California. This will spread cooling inland and bring stronger and gusty west winds to the mountains and deserts. There are also chances for showers at times for Saturday night into Monday. High temperatures would go from a few to around 5 degrees above average on Thursday to as much as 15 to 20 degrees below average on Sunday for the higher mountains.
