Synopsis
Warm and dry weather continues into early next week. Locally breezy winds at times through the Delta. Cooler, near-normal temperatures return Tuesday through the end of the week with onshore flow.
Discussion
Upper level ridging will continue to be the dominating weather feature through Monday with warm high temperatures in the low to mid 80's at Valley locations. Trough approaching the coast late Monday will turn the flow to the southwest with Delta breeze likely to set up Monday evening. Southwest wind gusts up to 25 mph will be possible through the Delta. Trough will move closer Tuesday with onshore flow providing a cool down back into the low 70's for most Valley locations, which will be near normal for this time of year. An isolated shower or thunderstorm may be possible over the mountains with chances 10 percent or less Tuesday afternoon and evening.
.
EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Wednesday THROUGH Saturday)...
Cut-off low phased with weaker trough near ORCA progged through Wednesday with NBM advertising slight chance POPs over the northern and eastern mountains. Next short wave progged to deepen over the West Coast Thursday into Friday. Models differ with progression of this wave with GFS dropping another vort max into the CWA from the north Saturday, while EC begins to build upstream EPAC ridging inland. NBM showing slight chance to chance POPs mainly over the mountains Thursday into Saturday. Overall QPF looks to be light with minimal travel impacts. Near normal high temperatures forecast Wednesday into Friday, then possibly above normal Saturday under building ridge model solution.
AVIATION
VFR conditions over interior NorCal next 24 hrs. Surface wind mainly below 12 kts except vicinity of Delta SWly sustained wind up to 20 kts.
