KEY MESSAGES
1. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Mojave Desert Slopes valid 6 PM this evening through 3 AM Sunday morning.

2. Maximum temperatures today are expected to be around three to six degrees below seasonal averages.

3. Dry and warming conditions next week, with highs around eight to twelve degrees above normal by Friday.

DISCUSSION
The low pressure system which brought some showers and thunderstorms to central California, along with areas of mountain snow and some strong wind gusts, is currently swinging eastward away from our area. Skies have generally cleared, with just some upslope cloudiness lingering in Kern and Tulare counties.

We will see weak ridging overhead today as the low pressure system continues to amble eastward. This will lead to generally dry conditions with temperatures warming to just a couple of degrees below normal. A few residual Sierra showers are conceivable, but blended model guidance keeps probabilities at 15 percent or less.

Ensemble model solutions slide another developing low pressure system from near the Gulf of Alaska inland across the northwestern United States through the early part of next week. During this period, we will be under a broad cyclonic flow with continued dry conditions and temperatures rising to around 2 to 4 degrees above normal. Temperatures will then trend further upward through the end of the week, and by Friday, afternoon highs are progged to be around 8 to 12 degrees above normal. Probabilistic guidance is around 30 to 50 percent for high temperatures of at least 87 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley next Friday.

This synoptic pattern will also bring periods of moderate gusty northwesterly winds. Probabilistic guidance shows at least 85 percent probabilities for wind gusts of 45 mph or higher along the Mojave Desert Slopes this evening and overnight. A Wind Advisory has been issued for there from 6 PM this evening through 3 AM Sunday morning.

AVIATION
Expect areas of MVFR with local IFR and terrain obscuration in upslope clouds along San Joaquin Valley facing slopes through 00Z Sunday. Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail throughout Central California for at least the next 24 hours.
