New AVIATION, MARINE
SYNOPSIS
Issued at 148 PM PDT Fri Apr 26 2024
Cloud conditions with some pockets of drizzle linger on the coast and spread inland tonight. Breezy winds arrive later this afternoon into tonight. Winds continue to stay breezy over the next few days, with better afternoon clearing leading to a warming trend over the weekend.
SHORT TERM
(This evening through tonight)
Issued at 142 PM PDT Fri Apr 26 2024
Similar to yesterday: Cloudy conditions continue, still some drizzle along the coast, and breezy to gusty northwest wind this afternoon and evening. Expect stronger winds than yesterday specifically for higher peaks and along the Big Sur Coast from pressure gradient change as the current trough pattern pushes east.
Additional drizzle chances arrive and spread inland in the evening with slight chances for another round of light rain chances on higher elevations and along the coast.
LONG TERM
(Saturday through Thursday)
Issued at 426 AM PDT Fri Apr 26 2024
Forecast philosophy remains unchanged from yesterday afternoon. The previous discussion follows:
The new upper level pattern keeps mostly northwest onshore flow into the weekend. While the immediate coast will continue to struggle with cloud cover, most areas slightly more inland and well into the interior will see quicker clearing times. This will place most areas back into the 60s and 70s into the next work week, while the coast will stick to around 60 degree highs. By the late week, some of those more interior locations look to break into the low 80s.
Longer term models are in better agreement that the next rain maker may just stay well to the north of the Bay Area and Central Coast as the ECMWF model families have adjusted the next trough to arrive over Seattle rather than the Bay area.
AVIATION
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1032 PM PDT Fri Apr 26 2024
Some low stratus has developed across the higher elevations, but outside of Monterey Bay, the terminals generally remain VFR tonight.
Moderate westerly winds continue overnight before turning breezy Saturday afternoon.
Vicinity of SFO... MVFR stratus has developed on the western half of the San Mateo Peninsula, but moderate west-northwest winds at the terminal overnight should keep ceiling formation at bay. Winds should pick up on Saturday afternoon with gusts up to 20 knots. Some model output suggesting MVFR ceilings developing late Saturday night, but confidence is currently low.
SFO Bridge Approach... Similar to SFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals... MVFR ceilings spilling over from the nearby mountains overnight, with moderate onshore winds. Winds pick up late Saturday morning as the stratus clears, with gusts up to 20 knot, before winds diminish and stratus returns in the evening.
