Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area 149 PM PST Sun Nov 28 2021

SYNOPSIS.

High pressure will control our weather through next week. Expect light winds, cool mornings, and warm daytime temperatures.

DISCUSSION. as of 01:48 PM PST Sunday . The view from approximately 22,000 miles above the earth's surface (aka GOES Satellite) shows a mostly cloud free California. A very large upper level ridge anchored over California has led to a cloud free day for the second day in a row. Ample insolation has also resulted in another afternoon of mild temperatures. Latest 24 hour trend shows many locations running close to or slightly above yesterday's temperatures. High temperatures this afternoon will once again top out in the 60s and 70s. A few interior spots in Monterey county will even reach the low 80s.

Tonight through the upcoming work week: In short, the seven day looks mild and dry for the Bay Area. The large upper ridge remains mainly over the region and peaks mid-week. Today's guidance shows the longwave pattern taking on a Rex Block set up (high pressure to the north and low pressure to the south) this week as well. In other words, not a lot of movement in the upper atmosphere yielding little day to day variability in our local weather. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s with a few far interior spots in the lower 80s. Given the clear skies overnight lows will be cool, especially sheltered inland valleys.

Now for the all important question, when will it rain? Long range continues to tease rain chances, but when and where keeps changing. The same is true with the latest 12Z run regarding rain chances. Deterministic runs show some rain chances returning December 6/7. Unfortunately, the long wave pattern shows a possible inside slider scenario, which usually isn't a big rain maker for us. Starting to sound like a broken record, but we'll have to wait and see.

AVIATION. as of 9:44 AM PST Sunday . For the 18z TAFs. VFR with few high clouds and clear skies. Light winds no more than 10 kts for the rest of the period. High res models hinting at possible stratus intrusion in the North Bay and coastal terminals early Monday morning that could bring cigs, but confidence is low at this time.

Vicinity of KSFO . VFR for the rest of the day today with light onshore winds this afternoon. Stratus deck to hug the coastline tonight that maybe could spill over to the terminal early Monday morning but chances are low and would be brief if some low clouds did spill over. Calm winds tonight through Monday.

KSFO Bridge Approach . Similar to KSFO.

Monterey Bay . VFR through the TAF period. Currently calm winds. Light onshore winds this afternoon. Stratus will approach the coastline Monday morning. Stratus likely to stay confined to the Monterey Bay coastline but confidence on cigs reaching terminals is low at this time. Stay tuned for upcoming TAF packages. Light winds expected tonight into Monday, becoming breezier again in the Salinas Valley tonight.

MARINE. as of 8:41 AM PST Sunday . Northwest swell with a moderate period continues into the work week. Winds will remain mostly light today then increase over the coastal waters Monday and Tuesday with gusts reaching 25 to 30 kts.

MTR WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES. Tngt. NONE.
