Discussion for Melbourne, FL
MARINE... Issued at 331 AM EST Wed Feb 21 2024 Today-Tonight...Increasing winds today will lead to building seas and the development of poor to hazardous boating conditions across the local Atlantic waters. North winds 10 to 15 knots will increase to 15 to 20 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots possible. This will lead to seas building to 5 to 8 feet across the local waters. A Small Craft Advisory will go into effect across the offshore waters early this morning and expand to include the nearshore Space and Treasure Coast waters after 7 AM. The nearshore Space Coast waters will then drop off after 4 PM, leaving the Gulf Stream waters under the Small Craft Advisory. Small craft should also exercise caution across the nearshore Volusia waters today into tonight. Conditions will remain mostly dry across the local Atlantic waters due to an area of high pressure. Thursday-Sunday...Poor to hazardous boating conditions linger through the weekend. High pressure moves into the western Atlantic Thursday ahead of an approaching cold front, which will pass through the local waters Friday afternoon through Friday night. Light winds with seas diminishing from 7ft over the Gulf Stream to 6ft into Thursday night. Then, winds increase and become southwesterly Friday. Small Craft Advisories will be needed, with gusts possibly approaching gale force Friday afternoon. Seas once again increase to up to 6-8ft. Scattered showers will accompany the frontal passage. High pressure builds back into the area this weekend, with northerly winds 15-20kts Saturday diminishing to 10-15kts Sunday. Seas up to 6-7ft lingering in the Gulf Stream into Sunday. Dry conditions forecast this weekend.
