Discussion for Newport/Morehead City, NC
MARINE... SHORT TERM /through Saturday/... As of 345 PM Fri...Deteriorating marine conditions will quickly overspread our waters this evening as a coastal trough gradually sharpens through tonight and a wave of low pressure rides along it overnight into Sat morning. Ongoing easterly winds at 10-20 kts will become SE'rly early tonight and eventually S'rly by Sat afternoon as the aforementioned low approaches and then tracks to the north. A few higher gusts especially across the Gulf stream waters of 25-35 kts will be possible across our coastal waters with gusts closer to 20 kts or so found along the inland rivers and sounds. With elevated winds in place through Sat, seas will continue to build tonight getting to 4-6 ft by early this evening and then 6-9 ft by Sat. As a result SCA headlines remain in place through the period. LONG TERM /Saturday night through Tuesday/... As of 4 AM Fri...High seas cont into the weekend as a coastal low moves northeast through the waters with decent serly to erly swell lingering through the weekend. Widespread rain will be prevalent through Saturday before diminishing late in the day or early evening. Southeasterly winds will peak in the 15-25kt range, highest over the far outer waters of the Gulf Stream, which cont to be confined to around 20 nm east southeast of the OBX where gusts will be as high as 30 kt. Advected southeasterly swell will build over all of the coastal waters despite the lighter winds over the cool waters outside of the Gulf, with seas forecast to build to 6-10ft in association with the coastal low. Seas slowly subside late Sunday into Monday for the nrn waters, but may linger above 6 ft south of around C Hatteras well into the week.
