Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tucson AZ 255 PM MST Fri Jul 3 2020

SYNOPSIS. A low grade monsoon pattern is in store through the weekend into early next week with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible mainly over the higher terrain to the south and east of Tucson. Things may get a little busier the second half of the new week. Meanwhile, high pressure will push temperatures back above average over the weekend into next week.

DISCUSSION. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions this afternoon. Most of the cloud are vertically challenged. The exception areas are far northern Greenlee county, the Chiricahua mountains and near the Bighorn burn scar. Can't rule out a very brief shower through sunset in these area.

For the 4th of July holiday weekend into early next week, look for the expansion of high pressure over the area from the east. This will result in hotter daytime temperatures and limiting the slight chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms to mainly the White mountains and near the Intl border between Nogales and Douglas. Otherwise a very low grade monsoon pattern.

There are hints in the operational/ensemble world for an uptick in monsoonal activity toward the end of next week. There is also hints for a developing heat wave next weekend across the state with ECMWF/ENS hotter than GFS/GEFS. This is outside of this forecast package but something to keep an wary eye on.

AVIATION. Valid through 05/00Z. Isolated -TSRA/-SHRA mainly near mountains and especially south and east of KTUS into this evening. Otherwise, FEW-SCT clouds 8k-10k ft MSL into this evening becoming generally SKC overnight. FEW-SCT clouds 12k-15k ft MSL redevelop on Saturday. Outside of brief outflow gusts to around 40 kts, SFC wind this afternoon WLY/NWLY at 8-12 kts becoming variable overnight into Saturday. SFC wind Saturday afternoon NWLY 10-14 kts with the stronger speeds near KSAD. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments.

FIRE WEATHER. A low grade monsoon pattern will prevail into early next week with isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms mainly near terrain, and especially south and east of Tucson. Shower and thunderstorm chances chances increase during the latter part of the upcoming week. Afternoon minimum humidity will generally range from 15-30 percent with good overnight recoveries. Aside from occasional gusty thunderstorm outflows, 20-foot will be mainly terrain driven at less than 15 mph.

TWC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES. None.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

I do not sell or share any user data or anything else for that matter. The only personal information I save is in the site log which has a line for each page view which includes the IP address your browser sends in the header as well as which page you requested. The information on this web site has not been checked for accuracy. It is for entertainment purposes only and should be independently verified before using for any other reason. There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
