Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 211 PM EDT Sat May 30 2020

DISCUSSION. While not yet meteorological summer, it sure is feeling like summer outside. With an upper-level ridge sustaining an area of surface high pressure, it's no wonder: this is a summertime pattern. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through tomorrow with light flow allowing the sea breeze circulations to dominate the mesoscale. As such, convection will initialize along the sea breeze, likely near the coast, and then propagate inland through the day before subsiding by sunset. High temps will max out in the 90s with heat indices approaching 100 degrees.

Amplification in the upper-levels has created a trough axis that will drag a weak cold front down the FL peninsula on Monday, leading to increased convergence along the front. Behind the system, drier and slightly cooler air will filter in, moderating temperatures and rainfall for mid-week. Highs are expected to only top out in the mid-to-upper 80s Tuesday and upper 80s for Wednesday.

This time of year, however, this will not last. Temperatures will creep back up to the low 90s late in the week, and higher rain chances begin to return south of I-4 Wednesday, and then more widespread across the area on Thursday with high pressure quickly back in control and staying in control into next weekend.

AVIATION. Thunderstorms are beginning to develop and remain a concern for terminals through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. Temporary VIS/CIG reductions are possible, along with gusty winds, but the probability of these conditions happening at any one terminal is still too uncertain for mention at this time.

MARINE. Generally benign boating conditions remain through the weekend. However, mariners in and around Tampa Bay along, Charlotte Harbor, and to a lesser extent nearshore waters should monitor conditions as storms are not completely out of the question. A similar story is expected for tomorrow, before a stronger east wind and higher rain chances and return for coastal waters for the work week.

FIRE WEATHER. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected through Monday, before a brief slightly cooler and drier airmass settles in for Tuesday. Fire weather concerns remain low at this time.
