Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 725 AM EDT Mon Apr 6 2020

AVIATION. Low cigs continue across much of the region, with MVFR/IFR conditions expected through at least the next several hours. Improvement can be expected later this morning or early this afternoon. Winds should remain generally northeast to east.

Prev Discussion. /issued 355 AM EDT Mon Apr 6 2020/

DISCUSSION . After a refreshing change of pace on Sunday, an upper level ridge is beginning to build back in over the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, an area of surface high pressure remains situated to the east of Florida. This will ultimately lead to a return of drier weather and above-normal temperatures beginning on Tuesday.

Before that can happen, the weakening shortwave has to completely collapse, and that will take most of today to happen. This could lead to a few showers, mostly along the FL east coast, but some could work their way back into interior portions, particularly Polk and Highlands counties. Area-wide, this will likely lead to a fairly cloudy day. Max temperatures yesterday did not rise nearly as high as expected. Today's temperatures are expected to be a little lower as well with cloud cover sticking around. Overnight, cloud cover should begin to clear and the light synoptic flow will allow the sea breeze to return beginning on Tuesday. However, subsidence will suppress shower development.

This will continue until Friday when amplification in the upper- levels brings a weak front into the Nature Coast before it falls apart. Some showers are possible beginning Friday for northern counties, but southern areas are expected to stay dry. It won't be until next Sunday when a better-looking system arrives that the entire region could see some rain. The unsettled weather could last into Monday.

AVIATION . CIGs have been a challenge overnight, but conditions are expected to generally improve from the MVFR/IFR conditions that they are now to VFR through the morning and into the afternoon as the shortwave trough that brought rain begins to collapse. Winds will increase today, becoming more NE this afternoon before returning more ENE this evening.

MARINE . Breezy conditions overnight will settle this morning. Calm winds and light seas will remain from Monday afternoon on through the remainder of the work week as high pressure regains control. Unsettled weather will return this weekend as a cold front arrives, and then another low pressure system follows this weekend.

FIRE WEATHER . A couple showers are possible today across inland locations as the weak disturbance falls apart. High pressure regains control Tuesday and ushers in warmer and drier weather through the work week. Critical thresholds are not expected to be met at this time. Fire weather concerns remain low.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
