Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 338 AM EST Mon Jan 18 2021

DISCUSSION. Early morning IR satellite imagery is showing bands of cirrus clouds streaming across much of the forecast area in the wake of the recent cold front, although clear skies over the northern Nature Coast is allowing some cooler low temperatures there, with patchy frost expected to develop through sunrise. Surface high pressure building into the Gulf of Mexico will slide east into Florida through tonight, with light northerly flow and clear skies allowing for another night of cool temperatures leading into Tuesday morning. As a result, areas of frost are expected across the Nature Coast Tuesday morning, and a freeze warning is in effect for Levy and inland portions of Citrus and Hernando counties. Other spots farther south could also see a brief freeze as well.

Weak ridging aloft will build into the Gulf Tuesday through the rest of the week, with the surface ridge holding across Florida and the northern Gulf of Mexico. This will lead to moderating temperatures and pleasant weather conditions. A weak cold front will approach the area late in the week, with isolated rain chances Friday through the weekend. However, the front is not currently forecast to make a clean passage through the state, so temperatures are forecast to remain slightly above normal through the weekend.

AVIATION. VFR conditions should hold through the next 24 hours, although some isolated MVFR ceilings could cause brief disruptions through the rest of the morning.

MARINE. High pressure building into the Gulf of Mexico from the northwest will setup northwest to north winds near exercise caution levels this morning, gradually subsiding during the afternoon. Winds will turn to easterly and increase again tonight into Tuesday morning before relaxing through the afternoon. Easterly flow will then hold through the rest of the week.

FIRE WEATHER. Relative humidity percentages will drop into the low 30s in some spots this afternoon and again Tuesday afternoon. However, wind speeds will not be high enough to trigger a Red Flag Warning. High dispersion indices are forecast for this afternoon, mostly from around Interstate 4 north through the Nature Coast counties.

GEOS Local Image of    EDIT
NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
