Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL 227 PM EDT Sun Jul 5 2020

DISCUSSION. The upper ridge has been pushed farther south and is now oriented northeast to southwest from east of the Bahamas to the Yucatan peninsula. A short wave trough remains to the northwest over the northern gulf coast states. The surface reflection of this trough is a developing area of low pressure near the LA/MS border which is at the trailing edge of a stationary boundary that has been lingering over the southeast U.S. the past several days. This low is being monitored by the NHC and has a 40 percent chance of TC development out to 5 days. This low will slowly progress eastward by the middle of the week allowing for the upper ridge to lift northward. In the meantime, a warm and moist west-southwest wind flow will continue over the region into next week. This pattern will support scattered showers streaming in from the gulf coast waters early in the morning and traversing eastward through the afternoon hours. The highest coverage will be over the nature coast and interior of the state. With minimal change in the synoptic pattern, temperatures will remain consistent with daytime highs in the low to mid 90's each day and overnight lows in the mid to upper 70's. Heat indices each day will range from 100-105 degrees during the afternoon hours.

AVIATION. Overall VFR conditions will prevail through the period with WSW winds around 5-10 knots with some higher gusts near showers and storms. Showers and storms are streaming in from the gulf waters and will continue over the next several hours, so will hold VCTS through 00Z for all terminals.

MARINE. Interaction between high pressure over the Florida Keys and a stationary frontal boundary over northern Florida will continue to produce west-southwest winds around 10-15 knots and seas 2-3 feet over the gulf coast waters. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible each day moving from west to east, with the highest chances north of Tarpon Springs. Higher wind gusts and rough seas as well as dangerous lightning can be expected in the vicinity of passing thunderstorms.

FIRE WEATHER. Scattered showers and isolated storms can be expected each day for the next week. These showers combined with high humidities each day will preclude any fire weather concerns.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

I do not sell or share any user data or anything else for that matter. The only personal information I save is in the site log which has a line for each page view which includes the IP address your browser sends in the header as well as which page you requested. The information on this web site has not been checked for accuracy. It is for entertainment purposes only and should be independently verified before using for any other reason. There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerous of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
